Feb. 22, 2011
LOGAN, Utah - Utah State women's basketball will join more than 400 teams in supporting the Womens's Basketball Coaches Association Pink Zone efforts for the Kay Yow Foundation as the Aggies host New Mexico State Thursday, Feb. 24 at 7 p.m., at the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum. Fans wearing pink will receive free admission and the first 200 fans will receive Aggie Pink Zone spirt sleeves. "It is an honor that we have an opportunity to support the WBCA Pink Zone in raising funds and awareness about the fight against breast cancer," head coach Raegan Pebley said. "The WBCA has raised over $3.3 million, and we are excited to help do our part." In conjunction with Serendipity Salon, the Aggies will be giving out a free pair of spirt sleeves with a $10 coupon for salon services to the first 200 fans. The Aggies are 2-2 in the history of Pink Zone games in the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum. "(Owner) Mary Hess and Serendipity Salon have been amazing in their support," Pebley said. "I am humbled by their genuine desire to help sponsor this game and help us educate. They are an example of selfless giving." The Kay Yow Cancer Fund, in partnership with the WBCA and The V Foundation, is committed to being a part of finding an answer in the fight against women's cancers through raising money for scientific research, assisting the underserved and unifying people for a common cause. So far the Kay Yow Cancer Fund has received over $85,000 in donations from the 2011 WBCA Pink Zone. "For the past four years Serendipity has been very involved in breast cancer awareness and we are very excited about being able to be a part of the Pink Zone game Thursday," Serendipity owner Mary Hess said. "I had a friend pass away at 29 and that really got us started with prevention and awareness." "Far too many people, men and women, have a personal connection with breast cancer," Pebley added. "I have grandmothers and aunts who have fought against this disease. I feel a personal responsibility to not let an opportunity to support Think Pink slip away."
The Aggies are 14-11 on the season and 8-4 in Western Athletic Conference action. Following the Pink Zone game Thursday, the Aggies will host Louisianan Tech on Saturday, Feb. 26 which will be senior day for USU's four graduating seniors, Alice Coddington, Stacey Howard, LaCale Pringle-Buchanan and Amber White.
