LOGAN, Utah - Utah State senior guard Jennifer Schlott became the first Aggie women's basketball player to be named to the Associated Press All-America team, earning honorable mention honors on Tuesday.
She is currently fourth in the nation in scoring, averaging 26.2 ppg. Florida International's Jerica Coley is first in the nation in scoring with 29.5 ppg. Coley was also an honorable mention All-America.
Schlott and BYU's Jennifer Hamson were the only two players from the state of Utah to be honored as Hamson was also named to the honorable mention list. Schlott was the only player from the Mountain West honored.
"It is nice and definitely a great honor. Hopefully, there will be more honors to come out of it for Utah State. I hope the program gets the recognition that it deserves," Schlott said. "It was a ride, that is for sure. It was fun, there is no other way to put it. To know that the coaching staff and teammates had confidence in me means a lot."
The senior broke several school and Mountain West records this season. Schlott broke both the Mountain West and Utah State single-season record for points scored with 811. She also set the MW record for single-season scoring, averaging 26.2 ppg in overall games and 27.2 ppg in league contests. She ended her four years at USU with the career points record with 1,566.
Schlott also ended her career breaking the Utah State record for career assists with 436, while her 192 assists this season broke the USU single-season record. The guard shattered the school record for single-game scoring with 44 points against UC Santa Barbara on Dec. 19. She became the first USU player to break the 40-point mark, as the previous school record was 38 points by Pat Montgomery against Weber State in 1979. She is also the eighth Utah State men or women's basketball player to score at least 44 points.
Utah State ended the season with a 15-16 record, advancing to the quarterfinals of the Mountain West Tournament.
