LOGAN, Utah - Kalhie Quinones, a 5-7 shooting guard from Otero Junior College (La Junta, Colo.), signed a National Letter of Intent to play at Utah State, Coach Pebley announced Monday. Quinones will have two years of eligibility for the Aggies when she joins the team this fall.
"Kalhie does a lot of amazing things both on and off the court," said Pebley. "She is very mature and understands the balance necessary to be a successful student-athlete. She is phenomenal at putting the ball on the floor and attacking the basket. She possess natural leadership qualities and a willingness to do the small things that make great players and teams."
A native of Loveland, Colo., Quinones averaged 14 points and six rebounds as a sophomore at OJC, leading her team to a 25-6 record. She also led them to the championship game of the Region IX Tournament, where she averaged 18.8 points and 4.25 steals for the tournament. Quinones led the tournament in scoring (75 points), steals (17) and defensive rebounds (23).
"I felt like a part of the team from the moment I met everyone," Quinones said. "I loved the area and the opportunity to get a great education from a top university was something I couldn't pass on. I also feel that with what the coaches are doing, and with the players currently on the team, we have a chance to do some amazing things."
