Utah State Women's Basketball Newcomer Signe Kyrkjebø To Play In The U20 European Division B Championships

LOGAN, Utah - Utah State women's basketball incoming freshman Signe Kyrkjebø will be representing her native Norway in the upcoming U20 European Championship Women Division B, which will begin Thursday, July 3 in Sofia, Bulgaria.

There are a total of 10 teams taking part in the championship and Norway will face all nine other teams. The first game is against Great Britain on Thursday, July 3. The tournament will conclude on Sunday, July 13. The other countries competing besides Norway and Great Britain are Bosnia Herzegovina, host Bulgaria, Germany, Hungary, Israel, Lithuania, Portugal and Romania.

Kyrkjebø, a native of Bergen, Norway, is no stranger to international competition, scoring a career-high 16 points in the U18 European Championship last year against Scotland. She also added a career-high 12 rebounds against Estonia last year. In the 2013 championship, Kyrkjebø averaged 7.4 points and 7.3 rebounds per game.

Last season, Belgium captured the gold medal in Albena, Bulgaria.

The 2014-15 USU women's basketball team will have a very international look this season with six international players from five different countries. Aside from Kyrkjebø, junior Stephanie Bairstow and freshman Funda Nakkasoglu hail from Australia. Returners senior Ingrida Strikas and junior Tijana Djukic come from Latvia and Serbia, respectively. Finally, junior Julianne Anchling comes to Utah State from France.
