USU's Brown Named Verizon WAC Women's Basketball Player of the Week
Nov. 21, 2011
LOGAN, Utah - Senior forward Ashlee Brown was named the Verizon Western Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week for Nov. 14-20. This is the second-straight week that Brown has earned WAC Player of the Week. This is the fourth honor of her Utah State career. She was also named College Sports Madness WAC Women's Basketball Player of the Week for the second-straight week.
The senior is the first Utah State women's basketball player to earn WAC Player of the Week honors in back-to-back weeks. She is the first player since Danyelle Snelgro to win the award twice in one season when she earned the honors twice in 2009.
Brown, a Chandler, Ariz., native, averaged 21.0 points on 53 percent shooting, grabbed 11.5 rebounds and 2.5 steals per game as the Aggies went 2-0 last week. Brown led Utah State to a 73-63 home win against Weber State and a 69-64 road win at UC Irvine, pacing the Aggies in scoring in both games. Against the Wildcats, the senior scored 21 points and brought down nine boards while also nabbing four steals. In the win against the Anteaters, Brown posted her third double-double of the season with 21 points and 14 rebounds, one shy of her career high. Brown was unstoppable in the first half, scoring 13 of USU's first 15 points.
