Pares Named America First Credit Union Utah State Student-Athlete of the Week

LOGAN, Utah - Senior guard Ana Pares has been named the America First Credit Union Utah State Student-Athlete of the Week it was announced on Monday. The USU weekly award is voted on by a state media panel. Pares (Provo, Utah) helped Utah State post a 1-1 record last week with a 64-56 overtime win against Northern Arizona on Nov. 19 and a 58-43 loss to Idaho State on Nov. 22. Against the Lumberjacks, Pares scored a career-high 18 points, including five in overtime. Against the Bengals, she scored 13 points to go along with a career-high eight rebounds. For the week, Pares averaged 15.5 points and 7.0 rebounds per game and shot 50.0 percent from the field (12-24). She also had four blocked shots and two steals. The Aggies are back in action Monday, Nov. 24 against Montana State-Northern at 7 p.m. at the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum. Other USU Athlete of the Week Nominees Include: MEN'S BASKETBALL - Sophomore forward Tai Wesley (Provo, Utah) scored 12 points and added a season-high eight rebounds in Utah State's 61-59 road win at UC Santa Barbara last week. Wesley was 6-of-6 from the field in the game and added one assist and one steal in 24 minutes. VOLLEYBALL - Senior outside hitter Melissa Osterloh (Sandy, Utah) posted her seventh double-double of the season with 20 kills and 10 digs in Utah State's five-set loss to San Jose State in the quarterfinals of the 2008 WAC Tournament. She added two blocks and one assist and hit .214 (20-8-56) in the match.
