LOGAN, Utah - Utah State women's basketball will begin the New Year taking on Air Force on Wednesday, Jan. 1 at 7 p.m. at the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum. After eight seasons in the Western Athletic Conference, USU (6-5) will now begin MW action against the Falcons (1-9).
The Aggies completed the 2013 portion of the 2013-14 schedule against College of Idaho on Dec. 28. USU has lost two-straight games and four of its last five. The Aggies look to move on after a 1-5 record in December.
Utah State and Air Force have only met two times, splitting the two games. The Aggies defeated the Falcons in Colorado Springs, 72-68, on Dec. 4, 2004. Air Force returned the favor the next year with a 60-56 win over USU in Logan on Dec. 8, 2005. The two teams, both former members of the WAC, have not met since 2005.
Air Force is currently 1-9 this season with its lone win coming against North Dakota State, 82-63, on Dec. 6. The Falcons have lost four-straight games, last falling to Eastern Illinois 76-44 on Dec. 21. Air Force is 0-5 on the road so far this season. Andrea Williams is in her fourth season as the Falcons head coach.
The Falcons have two players averaging in double figures, led by Jimi Blagowsky, who averages 11.3 points and 3.1 rebounds per game. Cherae Medina scores 10.0 ppg and is the team's leader in assists, averaging 3.1 apg. As a team, the Falcons score 53.3 ppg, while allowing 73.2 ppg.
Senior guard Jennifer Schlott continues to make her mark in the Utah State record books. With 316 assists, Schlott is just 55 helpers away from the USU record for career assists. Aggie-great Taylor Richards (2005-08) holds the career record with 371.
Schlott is also second in career free throws made with 278. She is just 41 free throws away from tying another Aggie-great Devyn Christensen who made 319 free throws from 2010-2013.
