Utah State Gymnastics Notches Several Career-High Scores in 194.875-191.250 Loss at Boise State Friday
Utah State gymnastics had a series of high scores and one an event win as it lost at Boise State, 194.875-191.250, in a Western Athletic Conference meet here Friday night.

BOISE, Idaho -- Utah State gymnastics had a series of high scores and one an event win as it lost at Boise State, 194.875-191.250 Friday night.

The Aggies recorded a 47.100 on bars, a 48.025 on vault, 47.575 on floor and a 48.550 on beam for their final score of 191.250. The Broncos posted a 48.825 on vault, 48.725 on bars, 48.525 on beam and 48.800 on floor for their winning total of 194.875.

In all-around competition, sophomore Sarah Landes took second-place with a score of 38.800, with Boise State's Brittany Potvin-Green claiming the title with a score of 38.875. Junior Paige Jones finished third in the all-around (38.650), while freshman Hayley Sanzotti finished sixth (37.650).

Freshman Joanna Cuba claimed Utah State's only event title with a score of 9.825 on the balance beam, while Landes tied for second (9.800) and Sanzotti took fourth (9.750). Jones and freshman Michelle Yasukochi tied for fourth on bars with 9.775. Jones also finished fifth on vault (9.725), while Landes finished fifth on floor (9.675).

The Aggies started the evening on the uneven bars with Jones leading off with a 9.775. Landes was up next, landing a 9.700, followed by Sanzotti who scored 8.900 and sophomore Kaitlyn Betts with an 8.950. Yasukochi notched a 9.775, topping her score from the BYU meet, setting a new career-best. Freshman Destiny Ezell wrapped up the event with an 8.750.

After a shaky first rotation, Boise State was in the lead, having scored 48.825 on vault. Overall, the Aggies had 47.100 on the bars.

Moving to vault, Landes led the way with a 9.625, followed by Jones who notched a 9.725. Betts landed a 9.650, while Ezell hit a new high score of 9.475. With only five gymnasts competing on vault, Sanzotti finished off the rotation with a career-best 9.550.

At the midway point of the meet, the Broncos maintained their lead after scoring a total of 48.150 on bars and the Aggies had a 48.025 on vault.

The Aggies were again one gymnast short moving to the floor, being forced to count each performance. Landes led things off with a 9.675. Sanzotti was next, notching a 9.450, followed by Jones who landed a 9.450. Ezell landed a 9.375, while sophomore Susie Miller made her first appearance of the season, scoring 9.625.

Overall, Utah State scored a season-high 47.575 on floor and Boise State notched 48.450 on beam. Heading into the final rotation the Broncos led by nearly four points, 146.075-142.700.

On beam to finish out the night, Sanzotti went first, notching a career-best and team season-high 9.750. Freshman Stefanie Daley landed a 9.300, followed by Jones who earned a season-best 9.700. Miller notched a 9.475, followed by Landes with a 9.800. Cuba rounded out the official competition with a 9.825.

The Aggies finished with a 48.550 on beam and the Broncos finished the meet with 48.800 on floor.

Utah State and Boise State will meet each other three more times this season, starting with a quad-meet at WAC rival Denver on Saturday, Feb. 23. The Broncos will then be in Logan on Friday, March 15 before the two also compete at the WAC Championships the next week at Southern Utah University.

Next weekend, the Aggies will be in the friendly confines of the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum as they play host to Southern Utah and Hamline University. Action gets underway at 7 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 25.
