Utah State Gymnastics Finishes Regular Season with Loss to No. 23 Boise State Friday

After a tough third rotation, Utah State gymnastics made up for a lot of lost ground through their floor routines, but unfortunately it wasn't enough as the Aggies fell to No. 23 and Western Athletic Conference rival Boise State, 195.300-194.125.

The Aggies honored their two seniors Amelia Montoya and Amanda Watamaniuk after the competition. Montoya was a four-year letterwinner while Watamaniuk had three years of action, sitting out this season due to injury.

Utah State scored a 48.425 on vault, 48.700 on bars, 47.675 on beam and a season-best 48.975 on floor. Boise State notched a 49.100 on bars, 49.1750 on vault, 49.325 on floor and 47.700 on beam for their total of 195.250.

In all-around competition, sophomore Sarah Landes finished second, but still set a new season-high with an overall score of 39.225. Junior Paige Jones matched her season-best with a 39.100 to finish fourth. Boise State's Caitlin Mann took home the all-around title with a 39.325.

Landes and sophomore Kaitlyn Betts tied for second on vault, each notching 9.875. Landes and Jones tied for fifth-place on bars with a score of 9.800. Freshman Stefanie Daley tied for fourth-place on beam with a 9.700. Landes also finished fourth on floor with a 9.875

Sophomore Susie Miller got the night started on vault for the Aggies, notching a 9.550. Freshmen Destiny Ezell and Michelle Yasukochi followed, scoring 9.475 and 9.675 respectively. Landes registered a 9.875, matching her career-best. Jones landed a 9.800 while Betts finished the rotation with a career-high 9.875.

After the first events, Boise State had a slight lead, notching 49.100 on bars. The Aggies had an overall vault score of 48.775.

Moving to bars, Montoya led-off with a 9.175, followed by Landes who landed a 9.800. Jones followed with a 9.800 while junior Christina Nye registered a 9.650. Yasukochi secured a 9.725 and Betts concluded the second rotation with a 9.725.

At the halfway mark of the night, Boise State maintained its lead after earning 49.175 on vault, giving them a total score of 98.275. The Aggies notched 48.700 on bars, just shy of the team season-best, for an overall score of 97.475.

Miller was once again up first as USU moved to beam, notching a 9.600. Jones followed with a season-best score of 9.725. Yasukochi took a fall, earning an 8.400, while freshman Stefanie Daley registered a 9.700. Landes earned a 9.675 and freshman Joanna Cuba notched an 8.975 to finish off the event.

Earning three scores of 9.900 on floor, Boise State extended its lead significantly after the third rotation. With an event score of 49.325, the Broncos had a total of 147.600 heading into the final rotation. USU notched 47.675 on beam, giving them a total of 145.150.

Ezell was up first on floor for the last event of the night, notching a 9.675. Cuba registered a career-best 9.775, followed by Miller who set a new season-high with a 9.825. Landes earned a 9.875, matching another career-best on the night. Jones earned a 9.775 and Montoya wrapped things up with a season-best 9.725.

As this is the end of regular season, the Aggies will head to Cedar City next Saturday for the WAC Championship meet at Southern Utah. The meet will get underway at 6 p.m. on March 23.
