
Minion Ties For Second On Vault At NCAA Gymnastics Regional

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - Utah State had six individuals competing at the NCAA North Central Regional Gymnastics Championships Saturday, hosted by the University of Minnesota. Freshman Jasmine Minion finished the highest for the Aggies, tying for second on vault. Minion posted a season-best 9.900 on vault, in finishing in a three-way tie for second with Michelle Stout of Arkansas and Ashley Postell of Utah. Kristina Baskett of Utah won the vault with a 9.925. Minion logged her score during the second rotation and sat atop of the leaderboard with Stout until Utah went on bars for the final rotation, knocking Minion off and denying her berth to the National Championships. USU's other top finisher was freshman Nicole Simoneua placing in a three-way tie for eighth with a 9.800. It was Simoneau's 13th posting of 9.800 or better this season. The Aggies' third individual was senior Megan Tschida on floor and she placed tied for 14th with a 9.825 while the fourth individual, freshman Lyndsie Boone, was 42nd on beam with an 8.275. In the all-around, sophomore Heather Heinrich was 19th with a 37.650 while junior Nicki Felley finished 21st with a 36.975. Heinrich was tied for 29th on beam with a 9.575, tied for 28th on vault with a 9.675, tied for 37th on floor with a 9.650 and 41st on bars with an 8.750. Felley finished tied for 33rd on vault with a 9.625, 35th on bars with a 9.500, 41st on beam with an 8.975 and 42nd on floor, notching an 8.975. Utah won the team title with a 196.950, while host Minnesota was third with a 195.275. Arizona posted a 194.275 to finish fourth, just ahead of Southern Utah's 194.050 for fifth and Iowa was sixth at 193.875.
