LONGEST ROAD TRIP OF SEASON ON TAP - Fresh off its shortest road trip of the season, Utah State gymnastics (0-1, 0-0 WAC) will embark on its longest road trip of the year, heading to Denton, Texas for a quad meet hosted by Texas Woman's (1-0), joining #10 Oklahoma (3-1) and Centenary (2-2)... The four-team meet kicks off at 6 p.m. (MT) at TWU's Kitty Magee Arena (1,800)... Live video and live results will be available through UtahStateAggies.com.
ROAD TRIPPIN' - USU's trip to Texas is the Aggies' longest road trip of the season, last week, USU had its shortest trip of the season to Salt Lake City for the season-opener at Utah... This weekend's trip to the Lone Star State is also one of the Aggies' three meets outside the state of Utah, joining at Boise State (March 2) at a quad meet at Arizona (March 16)... At 997 miles, the Aggies' trip from Logan to Denton is longer than their other two road trips to Boise (258 miles) and Tucson (658 miles) combined (916 miles).
FAMILIAR FACE ON THE OTHER SIDE - Texas Woman's assistant coach Josh Nilson is in his first year on the Pioneers' staff after spending six years on the USU coaching staff... Nilson was an assistant coach from 2008-11 after spending the previous three seasons as a student assistant... Nilson, who is a Logan, Utah native and is 2010 Utah State graduate, is married to the former Amanda Corn, daughter of long-time USU head coach Ray Corn, who coached the Aggies from 1978-2008.

ABOUT UTAH STATE - The Aggies are coming off a 191.925 score in their season-opener last Friday at No. 5 Utah, who notched a 197.400 and vaulted to No. 2 in this week's rankings... USU posted a WAC-leading 48.850 on bars, as well as 47.950 on floor, 47.725 on beam and 47.600 on vault... Freshman Sarah Landes notched a 38.825 in the all-around to finish third in her collegiate debut... Junior teammate Amelia Montoya posted a 38.000 to place fifth in the all-around... Landes also tied for fourth on the bars with a 9.825 and was the lone Aggie in the top five of any of the four events.
Landes currently ranks third in the WAC on bars, ranking tied for third in the region and tied for 32nd in the country with her 9.825... She also is fourth in the conference, seventh in the region and 40th in the nation in the all-around with 38.825... Landes also is tied for ninth in the conference and tied for 17th in the region on beam (9.700) as well as tied for 26th in the region on vault (9.675)... Montoya is the Aggies' top floor performer, ranking tied for 19th in the region (9.725), as well as also ranking 18th in the region and 86th in the nation in all-around (38.000).
Aggie head coach Jeff Richards enters his fourth season leading the USU program and has eight letterwinners returning from last year's squad.
WAC-BEST BARS - Utah State is tied with San Jose State for the top bars score and average in the WAC with a 48.650... USU is fourth in the conference in team total (191.925), beam (47.725) and floor (47.950) while ranking fifth in the league on vault (47.600).
FLOWER MOUND CHILD - USU freshman Ashley Follett moved from Flower Mound, Texas to American Fork right before her senior year in high school after competing for US Gold Gymnastics Club, where she was club teammates with TWU senior Kristie Costa, who is also a Flower Mound native.
RED RIVER RETURN - USU freshman Sarah Landes is also making a return to the "Red Dirt" region, as she is a native of Edmond, Okla., which is just 169 miles from Denton, Texas... Landes competed for Dynamo Gymnastics Club, where she was club teammates with Oklahoma sophomores Madison Mooring (Sallisaw, Okla.) and Hayden Ward (Norman, Okla.).
PHENOM-ENAL REUNION - Utah State redshirt-freshman Samantha Wagner is a native of Batavia, Ill., and competed for Phenom Gymnastics Club, and Wagner will be re-uniting with fellow Phenom Gymnastics Club alums in Texas Woman's sophomores Courtney Cochefski and Victoria Cochefski, who are both Chicago, Ill., natives.
NCAA REGIONAL PARTICIPANT RETURNERS - Utah State sophomores Rachel Vaske and Paige Jones are the squad's two returning NCAA Regional participants... Vaske was 12th in the all-around while Jones was 39th on floor and 40th on vault... Vaske posted a 38.025 in the all-around after scoring a 9.650 on bars (T34th), a 9.550 on both beam (31st) and floor (37th), and a 9.275 on vault (42nd)... Jones logged a 9.550 on vault (40th) and a 9.425 on floor (39th).
WAC-LESS IN SAN JOSE - Utah State did not have an all-WAC honoree for the first time in USU's six seasons in the league... It was also the first time since 1991 that the Aggies did not have an all-conference honoree.
WINNER, WINNER CHICKEN DINNER - Of Utah State's 17 event wins last season, sophomore Paige Jones is the Aggies' only returning event winner, as departed gymnasts Nicole Simoneau (seven), Lyndsie Boone (three), Jackie Dillon (three) and Cammi Muhr (three) had the others... Jones earned her first collegiate event title by winning the vault at the Sacramento State dual with a career-best 9.825.
SUPER 16 - The 16 gymnasts on USU's 2012 roster is the most on an Aggie roster since 2006, after having 15 on the 2011 roster, 13 on the 2010 ledger, 12 on the 2009 roster... USU had 14 gymnasts on each of the 2008 and 2007 rosters, while having 16 on the 2006 roster.
ABOUT TEXAS WOMAN'S - The Pioneers are 1-0 on the year after opening the season with a 191.450-188.200 victory over visiting Air Force... TWU captured three of the four events over the Falcons with scores of 48.150 on vault, 46.850 on bars, 47.750 on beam and 48.700 on floor.
Junior Bethany Larimer led a 1-2-3 TWU finish on vault, winning the event with a 9.775, and Larimer tied teammate Sophomore Victoria Cochefski for top honors on bars with 9.600's each... Freshmen Spencer Jones and Stephanie Repp tied for the beam title with 9.675's, while Jones and junior Kristen Edwards shared the floor victory with 9.825's... Senior Rashonda Cannie was the Pioneers' lone all-arounder but won the title with a 38.300.
TWU head coach Lisa Bowerman is in her first year at the helm of the Pioneers program and gave birth to her son four days before the meet last week.
ABOUT CENTENARY - The Ladies placed second at a quad meet hosted by Central Michigan on Sunday with a team score of 187.500... The Ladies (2-2) posted wins over Wisconsin-Eau Claire (178.000) and Wisconsin-La Crosse (182.375), but fell to host Central Michigan (192.525)... Centenary scored a 47.650 on vault, 46.425 on bars, 46.400 on beam and a 47.025 on floor for the final score of 187.500.
Junior Meg Crowley won the floor title with a 9.700 score while junior Jessica Lieblich tied for third on beam with a 9.600... Sophomore Robyn Price, Crowley and junior Christy Martinez had a three-way tie for fifth on vault all with 9.550's, while Martinez was the top Centenary gymnast on bars with an eighth-place 9.400 score.
Centenary head coach Jackie Fain is in her first year as Ladies' head coach after serving as a coach and choreographer at the U.S. Gold Gymnastics Academy in Roanoke, Texas since 2008.
ABOUT OKLAHOMA - The fourth-ranked Sooners are 3-1 on the year after losing their first regular season meet since 2009 last Friday to No. 7 Oregon State in Corvallis, Ore., 196.525-195.975... The Sooners scored a 38.950 on vault, a 49.025 on bars, 49.100 on beam and a 48.900 on floor for the final score of 195.975... With the loss, OU's nation-leading regular season win streak was snapped at 32 victories, last losing to Alabama in Tuscaloosa, Ala., on March 13, 2009.
Senior Megan Ferguson and sophomore Taylor Spears took home three event titles for the Sooners... Spears won both the vault title with a career-high 9.875 and a share of the beam title with Ferguson (both with a score of 9.875)... Spears, Erica Brewer and Rebecca Clark were part of a four-way tie for fifth on bars with a 9.825 while Ferguson was OU's top floor finisher with a 9.850 for fourth.
K.J. Kindler is in her sixth season steering the Sooners' program and was the 2010 National Coach of the Year, and was named the 2011 South Central Region Head Coach of the Year for the fourth time in her coaching career.
CYCLONE COACHING CONNECTION - The gymnasts in Saturday's meet aren't the only ones with connections, as Oklahoma head coach K.J. Kindler was head coach at Iowa State from 2001-06, and was at ISU during USU assistant coach Janet Anson's junior season for the Cyclones, and was the Big 12 Gymnast of the Year and All-Armerican... The duo of Kindler and Anson helped lead Iowa State to the 2006 Big 12 Championship and its first Super Six appearance in 2006.
AGGIES SERIES HISTORY VS. QUAD FOES - VS. TEXAS WOMAN'S - The Aggies are facing the Pioneers for the first time since 2008, when USU also competed at a quad meet hosted by TWU and also joined by Centenary, along with Kentucky... In that meet, the Aggies ended with 193.900 points, finishing third behind meet-winner Kentucky's 195.200 and runner-up Texas Woman's with 194.200, but ahead of Centenary's 192.025... Overall, Utah State is 7-2 against Texas Woman's, including 3-2 at Denton.
VS. OKLAHOMA - Saturday is the first meeting between USU and OU also since 2008 when the Aggies and Sooners were part of quad meet hosted by Denver along with Air Force... On that night, the Aggies ended with a 192.275 finishing third behind No. 6 Oklahoma's 195.925 and 13th-ranked Denver's 195.700 while finishing ahead of Air Force's 186.400... USU is 8-13 all-time against Oklahoma, posting a 4-9 neutral mark against the Sooners.
VS. CENTENARY - USU and CC are meeting for the first time since 2008, also facing each other at a quad meet at TWU, and were joined by Kentucky... In that meet, the Aggies ended with 193.900 points, finishing third behind meet-winner Kentucky's 195.200 and runner-up Texas Woman's with 194.200, but ahead of Centenary's 192.025... The Aggies lead the series with the Ladies, 2-0.
LAST TIME OUT - Utah State gymnastics scored a 191.925 in its 2012 season-opener Friday night at Utah while the fifth-ranked Utes notched a 197.400 for the win in front of a spirited Huntsman Center crowd.
The Aggies recorded a 48.650 on bars, a 47.600 on vault, 47.950 on floor and a 47.725 on beam for their final score of 191.925. The Utes posted a 49.400 on vault, 49.375 on bars, 49.275 on beam and 49.350 on floor for their winning total.
Freshman Sarah Landes notched a 38.825 in the all-around to finish third in her collegiate debut. Junior teammate Amelia Montoya posted a 38.000 to place fifth in the all-around. Landes also tied for fourth on the bars with a 9.825 and was the lone Aggie in the top five of any of the four events.
USU opened on bars, with Montoya leading off with a 9.700 followed by freshman Jenna Saxton with an 8.550. Fellow freshman Kaitlyn Betts then notched a 9.625, preceding a 9.775 by junior Amanda Watamaniuk. Landes then registered a 9.825 before freshman Christina Nye rounded out the rotation with a 9.725. The Aggies totalled a 48.650 on bars while the Utes notched a 49.400, led by a 9.925 by Kailah Delaney. Last season the Aggies only had two meets with a higher bars score than the 48.650 they got Friday.
Moving to vault, Watamaniuk started the lineup off with a 9.475. The 9.475 score was a popular one as freshman Susie Miller and Montoya both got that posting. Freshman Breyanna Aufiero scored a 9.500, preceding a 9.675 by classmate Landes. Betts completed the lineup with an 8.925 giving USU a 47.600 on vault.
Utah notched a 49.375 on bars and the Utes had a 98.775-96.250 lead at the meet's midway point.
For the third event, USU was on floor with Watamaniuk opening things off with a 9.450. Nye notched a 9.500, followed by Landes with a 9.625. After a 9.650 from Miller, Montoya logged a 9.725. Saxton then completed the rotation with an 8.200, falling on her final pass after a solid performance.
The Aggies logged a 47.950 on floor for a 144.200 score after three events. The Utes posted a 49.275 on beam for a 148.050 three-event total.
On beam for the fourth and final event, freshman Ashley Follett opened with a 9.600. Follett was followed by a 9.500 Miller, preceding a 9.100 by Montoya. Hogan then notched a 9.350, before Landes landed a 9.700. Senior Rebecca Holliday completed not only USU's rotation on beam, but the whole meet with a 9.575.
USU tallied a 47.825, for the Aggies' unofficial final score of 192.025. Utah scored a 49.350 on floor, getting a 9.975 from Georgia Dabritz, for the Utes' winning total of 197.400.
BEEHIVE STATERS - Utah State has three gymnasts from the state of Utah in senior Haley Hogan (Centerville/Viewmont HS/North Davis Gymnastics), sophomore Christina Nye (North Logan/Logan HS/Tytans Gymnastics) and freshman Ashley Follett (American Fork, Utah/American Fork HS/All American Gymnastics).
2011 REVIEW - Utah State finished with a No. 47 ranking in the Troester/GymInfo Women's Gymnastics Coaches Poll... USU had a final Regional Qualifying Score (RQS) of 192.935, a season-average of 192.483 and a season-high of 194.550... The Aggies were fourth in the WAC and eighth in the North Central final rankings... USU was also fourth in the WAC on two of the four apparatus: vault (48.400 RQS/48.173 avg./48.600 high), bars (48.555 RQS/48.308 avg./49.000 high), while ranking fifth on the other two events: beam (47.820 RQS/47.575 avg./48.625 high) and floor (48.625 RQS/48.427 avg./48.975 high).
Individually, Nicole Simoneau was fourth in the WAC, tied for 11th in the North Central region and tied for No. 55 in the country with a 9.835 RQS and a 9.765 average with a season-high of 9.875... Simoneau is also tied for 14th in the conference and 38th in the region on beam with a 9.710 RQS and a 9.584 average with a season-best of 9.750... Lyndsie Boone was tied for eighth in the WAC and tied for 24th in the region on vault with a 9.775 RQS and a 9.738 average with a high score on the season of 9.825... Jackie Dillon was tied for ninth in the WAC and tied for 21st in the region on floor with a 9.800 RQS and a 9.771 average, with a top season score of 9.850... Dillon was also sixth in the conference and 12th in the region as well as 76th in the nation in the all-around with a 38.720 RQS and 38.423 average with a season-high score of 38.150.

UTAH STATE'S RICHARDS NAMED NACGC CO-REGIONAL COACH OF THE YEAR - Utah State gymnastics head coach Jeff Richards was named the NCAA Division I National Association of Collegiate Gymnastics Coaches (NACGC) North Central Region Co-Coach of the Year, in a vote by the region's head coaches at the NCAA Division I Gymnastics North Central Regional. Richards shares the award with Utah co-head coach Megan Marsden.
Richards led five Aggie individuals to the NCAA North Central Regional Championships last Saturday in Denver, Colo. Senior Jackie Dillon was eighth in the all-around with a score of 38.450 to lead the Aggies on the night. The eighth-place finish was the highest of the night for Utah State. Freshman Rachel Vaske was 12th in the all-around with a score of 38.025. Senior Lyndsie Boone capped off an amazing Utah State career, finishing 14th in the all-around with a score of 37.950.

Ashley Follett - Logged a 9.600 on beam (8th) in first collegiate action in dual at Utah.

Paige Jones - Did not compete in the dual at Utah.

Susie Miller - In collegiate debut at Utah dual, scored a 9.650 on floor (7th), a 9.500 on beam (10th) and a 9.475 on vault (T9th).
