LOGAN, Utah - Utah State’s Autumn DeHarde was tabbed the Mountain Rim Gymnastics Conference Beam Specialist of the Week, it was announced Sunday by the league office.
It is the second time this year and second time in her career that the freshman from Sussex, Wis., has earned MRGC weekly accolades. Two weeks ago, DeHarde earned Floor Specialist of the Week accolades.
Overall, this is the Aggies’ 13th MRGC weekly award in their fourth season in the league.
DeHarde earned a career-high 9.925 to win the beam title against then-No. 15 Boise State last Friday night at Taco Bell Arena in Boise, Idaho. As a team, the Aggies recorded a season-high 49.200 on the event.
With that 9.925, which is tied for fourth all-time in school history, DeHarde became just the ninth Aggie – and the second this year (Emily Briones) – to ever record that score. She also tied for second on floor with a 9.900 against the Broncos and recorded a career-high 9.750 on vault to tie for seventh.
In the Aggies’ 195.275-195.200 victory at Southern Utah on Feb. 12, DeHarde tied for first on beam (9.875), tied for fifth on floor (9.825) and placed 11th on vault (9.650).
The 4-foot-11 DeHarde ranks second on the team with five event wins this season. She also ranks third on the team with 195.800 total points, trailing only junior Madison Ward (212.150) and fellow freshman Leighton Varnadore (203.750).
DeHarde currently ranks tied for 36th nationally and tied for third in the MRGC with a 9.840 Regional Qualifying Score (RQS) on beam. She is also tied for 50th in the nation and tied for third in the league on floor with a 9.840 RQS.
DeHarde was one of four gymnasts honored by the MRGC this week.
Boise State’s Courtney McGregor and Shani Remme captured four of the five weekly awards. McGregor earned her first Gymnast of the Week accolade after recording a 39.500 in the all-around. She had matching 9.900s on vault and bars, giving her Vault and Bars Specialist of the Week accolades, as well.
Remme matched McGregor’s 9.900 on bars to share the Bars Specialist of the Week honors. She also had a 9.950 on floor to share Floor Specialist of the Week accolades with BYU’s Shannon Hortman-Evans.
Utah State (5-4, 1-2 MRGC) wraps up its season-long four-meet road swing when it competes in the Elevate The Stage meet on Friday, Feb. 23, at the Sea Gate Centre in Toledo, Ohio. The quad meet, which is slated to begin at 5 p.m. (MT), will also feature a pair of opponents the Aggies have already faced in 12th-ranked Denver (10-3, 1-0 Big 12) and Bowling Green (3-6, 1-2 MAC), along with No. 6 Michigan (8-1, 4-1 Big 10).
