Utah State Gymnastics Begins Homestand Hosting No. 18 Denver In Annual Think Pink Night Friday
Feb. 20, 2014
LOGAN, Utah -
After a long month on the road, Utah State gymnastics is set and ready to return to the familiar home of the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum. The Aggies will open a four-meet homestand this weekend as they host No. 18 Denver on Friday, Feb. 21 at 7 p.m.
Friday will be Utah State's annual Think Pink meet. The competitors will don pink leotards and ribbons to honor those fighting breast cancer, while raising awareness and support. Fans who wear pink that evening will receive free admission to the competition.
Friday's meet will be streamed live and at no cost for fans. Additionally, live scores will be available. Links to both will be posted on the Utah State Athletics website on the day of competition. Fans can also follow the Utah State gymnastics social media outlets for meet updates.
The Aggies are coming off a big weekend where they placed third in a quad-meet at Oregon State. Utah State was topped by the Beavers and Boise State, who notched a 196.675 and 196.000, respectively. With its score of 194.025, USU topped Seattle Pacific, who had scored a 192.650.
The Denver Pioneers have been a strong, consistent program in the collegiate gymnastics world for many years. This season is no different. The team has been in the Top 20 of the Troester/GymInfo Rankings for the entirety of the 2014 season, currently ranked at No. 18. DU is averaging a team score of 195.646, having set a season-best 196.550 at BYU on Jan. 31. The team is 6-2 overall and 3-2 among Mountain Rim alliance members.
Denver comes into Logan having most recently taken its second loss of the year. The team narrowly fell to Southern Utah in Cedar City last Friday. The Thunderbirds just edged the Pioneers, 195.500-195.450. The team's only other loss came to Boise State in a tri-meet with the Broncos and BYU.
The all-time series between Utah State and Denver is relatively close with the Pioneers just edging the Aggies, 23-20. The teams met twice in 2013, once in a quad-meet at DU and later at the final Western Athletic Conference Championships.
