
Megan Tschida Earns Weekly WAC Gymnast Honor
March 1, 2007 LOGAN, Utah - Utah State gymnast Megan Tschida was named WAC Specialist of the Week for her performance on floor at home against Southern Utah, it was announced by the conference office on Thursday. Tschida (Prounounced - Chee-tah) is a junior from St. Paul, Minn. At home against SUU she scored a 9.900 on floor to fuel the Aggies to a season-high team floor score of 49.325 to beat the Thunderbirds, who also recorded a season high team score of 195.675 to 194.700. A Utah State gymnast has now been recognized by the conference office three times this season as Jessica Parenti-Otte earned two gymnast of the week honors on Jan. 12 and Jan. 29. Earlier in the season Tschida won the floor competition at home against BYU with a score of 9.850, yet her efforts were not awarded as the Aggies fell to the Cougars 193.800 to 195.475. Tschida has a career-high floor score of 9.950, which she posted as a freshman. Last season, she finished fourth at the WAC Championships on the floor with a score of 9.750. Elise Wheeler of Southern Utah was named Gymnast of the Week after setting a new career-best in the all-around for the second consecutive week with a 39.300 at Utah State as she took home the individual title. Tschida and the Aggies will return to action when they host Alaska-Anchorage on Friday, Mar. 1, at 6:30 p.m. at the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum.
