Utah State Hosts San Jose State Friday In WAC Gymnastics Dual

LOGAN, Utah - Utah State will host San Jose State on Friday, March 7, in a Western Athletic Conference gymnastics dual at 6:30 p.m. at the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum.
USU currently has a 3-10 overall and 1-5 WAC ledger, while SJSU owns an 11-2 overall and 4-1 WAC mark. The Aggies are currently ranked No. 42 in the RQS rankings while the Spartans are No. 35. A team's RQS is determined by the top three road scores and then the highest scores for a team during the year.
Friday is USU's first WAC dual since Feb. 4 when the Aggies were at Southern Utah, and the first conference action since USU tanngled with Southern Utah in a tri-meet at Utah on Feb. 22.
Utah State is facing San Jose State for the first time this season, and is the first meeting between the two since the WAC Championships last year. Friday is the first dual between USU and SJSU since Feb. 26, 2001, also at Logan and won by the Spartans, 193.957-193.750.
The USU Athletic Department is inviting International students to Friday's meet. All International students will receive free admission along with their immediate family by presenting the coupon e-mailed to them.

USU is 3-10 on the season after getting topped by No. 13 Denver in a dual on Friday, 195.250-192.300. Utah State posted season-bests on bars and floor with a 48.650 and 48.900, respectively, marking the second meet in a row the Aggies have logged a season-high on bars after last week's 48.450.
As a team, USU has a team RQS of 192.185. The Aggies also have an RQS of 48.585 on floor, a 48.480 RQS on vault, 48.120 on bars and 47.175 on beam. USU ranks fifth in the WAC and eighth in the North Central Region in team total, as well as third in the league and fifth in the region on floor, fifth in the conference and sixth in the region on vault, as well as sixth in the WAC and eighth regionally in both bars and beam.
Individually, freshman Nicole Simoneau has a 9.830 RQS on bars, currently leading the WAC and ranking tied for third in the region and is presently ranked 34th in the nation.
In their last action, the Spartans were second in a quad-meet hosted by Arizona State. Seventh-ranked Stanford won the meet with a 195.800, followed by SJSU's 194.200, as the Spartans upset 17th-ranked Arizona State with a 194.000, while Wisconsin-Oshkosh was fourth with a 181.125.
As a team, SJSU is third in the WAC in team total (193.235), second on floor (48.635) as well as fourth on vault (48.500), bars (48.150) and beam (48.105).
Junior Veronica Porte currently leads the WAC with a 38.900 all-around RQS, as well as other conference rankings of seventh on both beam (9.750) and floor (9.775), in addition to 12th on both vault (9.690) and bars (9.715).
Utah State turns around and competes against Brigham Young on Monday, March 10 at 4 p.m. at Provo, Utah.
