FINAL PREP FOR WAC CHAMPIONSHIPS - Friday is USU's final preparation for the Western Athletic Conference Championships next Saturday, hosted by USU at the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum.

IN THE RANKINGS - Utah State is No. 44 in the Troester/GymInfo Women's Gymnastics National Rankings (as of March 12), by Regional Qualifying Scores (RQS), as the Aggies have a 193.700 RQS... Arizona is No. 18 with a 195.750 RQS, while Bridgeport is No. 38 with an RQS of 194.170 and Air Force is No. 57 with a 191.370 RQS... The Aggies are seventh in the North Central Region while the Falcons of Air Force are ninth... ABOUT UTAH STATE - Utah State gymnasts captured four of the five possible titles on the way to USU gymnastics' second-best score of the season 194.200-193.700 win over Southern Utah Friday night for the Aggies' first victory over the Thunderbirds since 2005, snapping a 24-meet losing skid.

Sophomore Paige Jones shared the vault title with freshman teammate Sarah Landes with 9.825's, while Jones won the floor with a 9.850 on the way to the all-around win with a 38.975... Senior Rebecca Holliday captured the bars title with a 9.800, while freshmen Ashley Follett and Samantha Wagner were the top Aggies on beam, tying for third with 9.725's... Landes was second in the all-around with a 38.400 and Holliday was third with a 38.300.

Jones earned her sixth win of the week, after winning three events in Monday's dual vs. BYU... The sophomore now has seven event wins on the season, while Landes' title share was also her seventh of the season... Holliday now has three bars wins, part of her five titles on the year.

The Aggies' 194.200 was their second-highest score of the season and their third score of 194.000 or better... They scored a 48.600 on vault, a 48.650 on bars and a 48.075 on beam and a 48.875 on floor... The floor score tied USU's season-high while the vault was the second-highest.

Utah State has a team RQS of 193.700, including ranking second in the WAC on bars with a 48.785 RQS, as well as notching RQS's of 48.455 on vault, 48.130 on beam and 48.750 on floor... USU has a team total season-average of 193.388, including 48.265 on vault, 48.688 on bars, 47.890 on beam and 48.545 on floor.

Freshman Sarah Landes is sixth in the WAC in the all-around with an RQS of 38.925, which ranks her ninth in the North Central region and tied for 48th in the nation... Landes also leads the team on beam with a 9.690 RQS, ranking 10th in the conference and 29th in the region... On floor, Landes and sophomore Paige Jones share the team lead and are tied for eighth in the WAC, each with a 9.810 RQS, ranking tied for 12th in the region and 99th in the country.

Jones is fifth in the WAC and 13th in the region on vault with an RQS of 9.810, and is also seventh in the WAC, 12th in the region and tied for 60th in the country in the all-around with a 38.840 RQS... WINNER, WINNER, CHICKEN DINNER - USU now has had six different gymnasts earn event wins, collecting 18 event titles, including four Aggie gymnasts tying for the bars title vs. SJSU on 2/10, part of a five-way logjam for the event title... Freshman Sarah Landes and sophomore Paige Jones lead the team with seven event wins, with Jones winning six last week with three each in the BYU and SUU duals... Senior Rebecca Holliday has five while junior Amelia Montoya and freshmen Kaitlyn Betts and Susie Miller have one each.

2ND IN WAC ON BARS - Utah State slid back to second in the WAC on bars, after regaining the top spot last week, currently with a 48.785 RQS, just behind Denver's 48.875... USU's 48.785 RQS on bars ranks third in the North Central region and 25th in the country.

USU is fourth in the WAC in team RQS (193.325), as well as fourth in the conference on floor (48.585 RQS), while ranking fifth on both vault (48.285 RQS) and beam (47.885 RQS).

CAREER-HIGHS FOR 15 PLEASE ALEX - Utah State posted a season-high 15 career-highs on the way to its season-high 194.875 in the San Jose State dual on Feb. 10, including all six in the bars line-up... Freshman Sarah Landes led with five (all four events + all-around), followed by two by senior Rebecca Holliday (bars and beam), sophomore Paige Jones (bars and all-around) and junior Amanda Watamaniuk (bars and floor), as well as one each by junior Amelia Montoya (bars), along with freshmen Kaitlyn Betts (bars), Ashley Follett (beam) and Susie Miller (floor).

AGGIES SCHEDULE FULL OF NUMBERS - A total of six of USU's opponents are in this week's Top 25... Two of those six are in the top seven as Oklahoma (Jan. 21) is No. 2 while Utah (Jan. 13) is No. 7... Other USU foes include No. 15 Boise State (Jan. 27/March 2), as No. 17 Denver (March 24), No. 18 Arizona (Saturday, March 16) and No. 25 Arizona State (Feb. 3)... One other opponent is just outside the Top 25 in No. 33 BYU (Feb. 25/March 5) and No. 34 San Jose State (Feb. 10/March 24).

ABOUT ARIZONA - The Wildcats are 11-5 overall after posting their second-best score of the season with a 196.150 to win a dual on the road at New Hampshire, who scored a 195.200.

Junior Aubree Cristello won the all-around with a 39.375, including taking top honors on vault with a 9.90. Senior Rebecca Cardenas won the bars with a 9.850, while freshman Kristin Klarenbech posted a new career-high with a 9.875 to win the floor title, and junior Molly Quirk posted a 9.825 on beam to win the event, and was second in the all-around with a 39.150.

UA has a team-total RQS of 195.750, including 49.010 on vault, 48.985 on bars, 48.870 on beam and 49.090 on floor... The Wildcats have a team-total average of 195.288, including 48.880 on vault, 48.768 on bars, 48.733 on beam and 48.900 on floor.

Cristello leads Arizona with a 39.310 all-around RQS, including leading the team on vault (9.870 RQS), bars (9.845 RQS) and floor (9.900 RQS)... Senior Katie Matusik has a team-best 9.870 beam RQS.

Head coach Bill Ryden is in his 13th season at the leash of the Wildcats' program... Ryden has led Arizona to Regionals in each season, stretching UA's streak to 24 consecutive appearances and made an NCAA Championship appearance in 2002, the program's first since 1996.

ABOUT AIR FORCE - The Falcons are 5-11, registering their season-high in a road meet with a 192.275, finishing second at the Eastern Michigan Eagle Invitational on Saturday, won by host EMU wtih a 193.950.

Air Force took five of the top 10 bars spots, led by sophomore Linnaea Hance, who tied for the event win with a 9.800... On bars, freshman Jessica Wallander shared the title with a 9.750... Sophomore Katie Hawthorne and freshman Kim McRobbie shared team-leading honors on beam, tying for 14th with 9.675's each... Freshman Alexandra Stych was the top Falcon gymnast on floor, finishing third with a 9.800... Sophomore Jennifer Larsen and Hance were third and fourth in the all-around with 37.750 and 37.725 scores, respectively.

The Falcons have a team-total RQS of 191.370, including 47.940 on vault, 48.150 on bars, 47.655 on beam and 48.100 on floor... Air Force has season averages of 47.695 on vault, 47.800 on bars, 47.293 on beam and 47.575 on floor for a team-total average of 190.363.

Hance leads Air Force with a 38.110 all-around RQS, as well as a team-leading 9.745 bars RQS... Wallander leads the team on vault (9.780 RQS) and floor (9.700 RQS), while Hanner tops the squad on beam (9.715 RQS).

Air Force head coach Doug Day is in his sixth year guiding the Falcons' program, and was named the 2011 Coach of the Year by both the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation and USA Gymnastics, his fifth and sixth COY honors, respectively.

ABOUT BRIDGEPORT - The Purple Knights are 18-6 on the year, as Friday's meet is UB's 10th meet this season with at least three teams, including seventh-straight... In its last action, Bridgeport finished in second-place with a 192.950 in a tri-meet won by Maryland (195.075), while Penn was third (191.650).

Junior Monica Mesalles Sallares won the all-around competition with a total of 39.075, including tying for first on vault with a 9.850, second on floor with a 9.850... She was also the Purple Knights' top finisher on the beam with a 9.700, good for fourth... Senior Emily Repko took seventh on beam with a score of 9.625.

The Purple Knights have a team-total RQS of 194.170, including 48.700 on vault, 48.450 on bars, 48.655 on beam and 48.945 on floor... UB averages 48.518 on vault, 47.793 on bars, 48.343 on beam and 48.680 on floor, for a team-total average of 193.334.

Mesalles Sallares leads Bridgeport with a 39.125 all-around RQS, the only UB gymnast with an AA RQS... She also leads the team with a 9.875 vault RQS and a 9.855 floor RQS... Sophomore Lissette La Fex leads the team on bars with a 9.820 RQS while Repko tops the tem on beam with a 9.850 RQS.

SERIES HISTORY VS. OPPONENTS -

ARIZONA - Utah State has an 11-22 overall record against Arizona, including 1-4 at Tucson... The teams are meeting for the second year in a row after not facing each since 2001... In last year's tri-meet with BYU hosted by USU, then-No. 18 Arizona was second with a 192.725 while USU was third with a 192.000 and BYU won with a 193.075... Friday is USU's first visit to Tucson since the 1991 Regional Championships.

AIR FORCE - The Aggies are 8-1 against the Falcons, including 5-1 at a neutral site... USU and Air Force last met in team action in 2008 in a quad meet hosted by Denver with Oklahoma, as the Aggies ended the night with 192.275 points, finishing behind No. 6 Oklahoma's 195.925 and 13th-ranked Denver's 195.700 while finishing ahead of Air Force's 186.400... USU and Air Force also had individuals at last year's NCAA North Central Regional Championships.

BRIDGEPORT - Friday is the first meeting between the Aggies and Purple Knights in not only gymnastics, but believed to be in any sport.

SUPER 16 - The 16 gymnasts on USU's 2012 roster is the most on an Aggie roster since 2006, after having 15 on the 2011 roster, 13 on the 2010 ledger, 12 on the 2009 roster... USU had 14 gymnasts on each of the 2008 and 2007 rosters, while having 16 on the 2006 roster.

BEEHIVE STATERS - Utah State has three gymnasts from the state of Utah in senior Haley Hogan (Centerville/Viewmont HS/North Davis Gymnastics), sophomore Christina Nye (North Logan/Logan HS/Tytans Gymnastics) and freshman Ashley Follett (American Fork, Utah/American Fork HS/All American Gymnastics).

FLIPPING THE BOOKS TOO - Utah State had four gymnasts earn academic all-WAC honors last season, and three return, in seniors Haley Hogan and Rebecca Holliday, along with junior Amanda Watamaniuk.

SUU scored a 48.875 on vault, 48.775 on bars, 47.175 on beam and 48.875 on floor for its final score of 193.700. Caitlin Kennedy won the beam title with a 9.825.

The Aggies started off on bars, with junior Amanda Watamaniuk kicking off the rotation with an 8.85 after a lengthy judge's deliberation. Holliday then stuck a 9.800, followed by a 9.675 from Landes. After a 9.750 by junior Amelia Montoya, Jones notched a 9.675. Freshman Kaitlyn Betts rounded out the rotation with a 9.750, giving USU a 48.650 on bars. SUU scored a 48.875 on vault, led by a 9.800 by Rochelle Bernier, for the early lead.

Trading events for rotation two, USU was on vault and the lineup was again led off by Watamaniuk, recording a 9.650. Freshman Suzie Miller posted a 9.625 before Landes landed a 9.825. A 9.675 by Betts preceded Jones with a 9.825. Holliday then completed USU's vault line-up with a 9.550. The Aggies notched a 48.600 on bars, their second-best mark of the season on the apparatus.

The T-Birds tallied a 48.775 on bars, and at the halfway point of the meet, led 97.650-97.250.

Just like the first two rotations, Watamaniuk led off the Aggies' lineup, posting a 9.700, preceding a 9.750 from Holliday. Montoya then registered a 9.800, followed by a 9.775 from Miller. Jones then tied her career-best with a 9.850, and her sixth score of 9.800 or higher this season. Landes then notched a 9.600, closing out USU's floor rotation with a season-high tying 48.875. SUU scored a 47.175 on beam, led by a 9.825 by Caitlin Kennedy.

With three rotations in the books, the Aggies overtook the T-Birds and had a 146.125-144.825 lead.

Follett started things off for USU on beam, notching a 9.725. Redshirt-freshman Wagner followed with a 9.725, tying her highest official score and just shy of her career-best of 9.750 from an exhibition performance. Jones then hit a 9.625 before senior Haley Hogan hung a 9.700 on the scoreboard. After a 9.200 from Holliday, Landes scored a 9.300, both suffering falls.

Utah State sealed the win by scoring a 48.075 on beam, its third-best mark on the event this season. The T-Birds tallied a 48.875 on floor, led by three gymnasts with 9.800's.
