USU'S CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP HOSTING HISTORY - Saturday marks the first time since 2006, USU's first year in the conference, that the Aggies will host the WAC Championships... Overall, it will be the seventh time that Utah State has hosted its conference meet... USU previously hosted the WAC Championships in 2006, the Western Gymnastics Conference Championships in 2002, the Big West Conference Championships in 1992, 1996 and 2000, as well as the High Country Athletic Conference Championships in 1988.

FAB FIVE - After six teams competing in the previous six conference championships, there will only be five teams involved in Saturday's meet... Boise State departed for the Mountain West, which does not sponsor gymnastics, so the Broncos were independent this season, and Cal State Fullerton discontinued gymnastics... Those two teams were replaced by Denver, who joins the conference in all sports for the 2013 season.

UP NEXT - The top 36 teams in the country are selected to the NCAA Regional Championships on Saturday, April 7... The NCAA North Central Regionals are at Salt Lake City, Utah, hosted by the University of Utah... Utah State, currently ranked No. 46, will need to climb into the top 36 to qualify as a team, but the Aggies could send individuals, like they have done in the last four years.

IN THE RANKINGS - The five WAC schools are ranked as high as Denver at No. 18 and as low as Utah State at No. 46 in this week's Troester/GymInfo Women's Gymnastics National Rankings (as of March 19), by Regional Qualifying Scores (RQS)... Denver has an RQS of 195.865, good for No. 18, while San Jose State is No. 33 with a 194.690 RQS, Sacramento State at No. 41 with a 194.160 RQS, Southern Utah at No. 44 with a 193.870 RQS and USU at No. 46 with a 193.745 RQS.

SIXTH RANKED FOE - Saturday's championship meet includes No. 18 ranked Denver, which will be USU's sixth meet against an opponent ranked in the top 25 of the Troester/GymInfo Women's Gymnastics National Rankings, and they have all been in progressive order... At the time of facing them, USU has met No. 5 Utah, No. 10 Oklahoma, No. 13 Boise State, No. 16 Boise State and No. 18 Arizona.

USU WAC CHAMPIONSHIPS HISTORY - Utah State's best finish at the WAC Championships is third, done twice... The first was 2007 at Cedar City, Utah, hosted by Southern Utah, and then the Aggies matched that finish in 2010 at Fullerton, Calif., hosted by Cal State Fullerton... The Aggies hosted the 2006 WAC meet their first year in the conference and also the first year that gymnastics was reinstated as a conference sport after a 13-year layoff, and USU finished fourth... Utah State's other finishes were fifth in 2008 at Boise, Idaho, sixth in 2009 at Sacramento, Calif. and fifth in 2011 at San Jose, Calif... USU CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIPS HISTORY - Utah State has won five conference championships in the history of the Aggies gymnastics program, winning Big West Conference titles in 1992, 1996, 1998 and 2001, as well as a Western Gymnastics Conference crown in 2005... That was the last year of the WGC, before it made up two-thirds of the WAC as USU was joined in the WGC by Boise State, Southern Utah and Cal State Fullerton.

AGGIES' ALL-WAC HISTORY - USU's streak of having at least one all-WAC honoree was snapped last year after having at least one gymnast place in the top six in each of the previous five years... Overall, USU gymnasts have earned 30 all-WAC honors... Aggie senior Rebecca Holliday is the only all-WAC gymnast on the 2012 roster, earning second-team accolades on both bars and beam in 2010. ABOUT UTAH STATE - The Aggies are returning home after a two-meet road swing, the last in a quad meet at Tucson, Ariz., hosted by No. 18 Arizona, with Bridgeport and Air Force, where USU was third with a 192.975... The host Wildcats of Arizona won the meet with a 196.525, followed by the Purple Knights of Bridgeport with a 193.525... USU's 192.975 was good for third, just ahead of the Falcons of Air Force's 192.175.

Sophomore Paige Jones was the top Aggie placer on the night, tying for second on bars with a 9.850... Redshirt-freshman Samantha Wagner was the top Aggie on beam, landing a career-best 9.800 to tie for fifth, while freshman Sarah Landes was USU's top placer on vault, tying for fifth with a 9.775 and junior Amelia Montoya was the Aggies' top floor performer with a 9.775 to tie for 10th... In the all-around, Jones tied for fourth with a 38.500, just ahead of senior teammate Rebecca Holliday, who was fifth with a 38.375 and Landes tied for eighth at 37.975.

Utah State has a team RQS of 193.745, including ranking second in the WAC on bars with a 48.865 RQS, as well as notching RQS's of 48.455 on vault, 48.213 on beam and 48.750 on floor... USU has a team total season-average of 193.350, including 48.264 on vault, 48.721 on bars, 47.914 on beam and 48.452 on floor.

Freshman Sarah Landes is sixth in the WAC in the all-around with an RQS of 38.925, which ranks her 11th in the North Central region and tied for 58th in the nation... Landes also leads the team on beam with a 9.690 RQS, ranking 16th in the conference and 33rd in the region... On floor, Landes and sophomore Paige Jones share the team lead and are tied for ninth in the WAC, each with a 9.810 RQS, ranking tied for 16th in the region.

Jones is fifth in the WAC and 16th in the region on vault with an RQS of 9.810... She also is tied for sixth in the WAC and 16th in the region on bars with a 9.805 RQS, and is also seventh in the WAC, 13th in the region and 71st in the country in the all-around with a 38.840 RQS... Senior Rebecca Holliday is 10th in the WAC, 18th in the region and 98th in the nation in the all-around with a 38.200 RQS, as the all-around is the only rankings with an Aggie gymnast in the top 100. {See pg 12 for complete rankings}

WINNER, WINNER, CHICKEN DINNER - USU now has had six different gymnasts earn event wins, collecting 18 event titles, including four Aggie gymnasts tying for the bars title vs. SJSU on 2/10, part of a five-way logjam for the event title... Freshman Sarah Landes and sophomore Paige Jones lead the team with seven event wins, with Jones winning six last week with three each in the BYU and SUU duals... Senior Rebecca Holliday has five while junior Amelia Montoya and freshmen Kaitlyn Betts and Susie Miller have one each.

2ND IN WAC ON BARS - Utah State remains second in the WAC on bars, after regaining the top spot two weeks ago, currently with a 48.865 RQS, just behind Denver's 48.915... USU's 48.865 RQS on bars ranks fifth in the North Central region and 28th in the country.

Entering the WAC Champinships, USU is fifth in the WAC in team RQS (193.745), as well as fourth in the conference on floor (48.750 RQS), while ranking fifth on both vault (48.455 RQS) and beam (48.215 RQS).

CAREER-HIGHS FOR 15 PLEASE ALEX - Utah State posted a season-high 15 career-highs on the way to its season-high 194.875 in the San Jose State dual on Feb. 10, including all six in the bars line-up... Freshman Sarah Landes led with five (all four events + all-around), followed by two by senior Rebecca Holliday (bars and beam), sophomore Paige Jones (bars and all-around) and junior Amanda Watamaniuk (bars and floor), as well as one each by junior Amelia Montoya (bars), along with freshmen Kaitlyn Betts (bars), Ashley Follett (beam) and Susie Miller (floor).

AGGIES SCHEDULE FULL OF NUMBERS - A total of five of USU's opponents are in this week's Top 25... Two of those five are in the top seven as Oklahoma (Jan. 21) is No. 2 while Utah (Jan. 13) is No. 7... Other USU foes include No. 14 Boise State (Jan. 27/March 2), No. 17 Arizona (March 16) and No. 18 Denver (Saturday, March 24)... Three other opponents are just outside the Top 25 in No. 26 Arizona State (Feb. 3), No. 33 San Jose State (Feb. 10/, Sturday, March 24) and No. 34 BYU (Feb. 25/March 5).

ABOUT DENVER - The Pioneers enter the WAC Championships as the highest-ranked of the five teams, sitting at No. 18 in this week's rankings... Denver has a 14-6 overall record, and though they did not compete in a meet that went toward their WAC record, the Pioneers did compete against WAC foe Sacramento State in a dual on Feb. 25... DU has posted a 196 or higher in four of its last five meets, including its most recent action, notching a 196.200 to finish second in a home quad meet won by No. 19 Minnesota (196.220), while Iowa was third (194.500) and No. 25 Arizona State was fourth (194.225).

DU leads the WAC in team-total RQS plus all four events, with a 195.865 team-total RQS, as well as 49.100 on vault, 48.915 on bars, 48.740 on beam and 49.145 on floor... The Pioneers have season averages of 49.035 on vault, 48.598 on bars, 48.602on beam and 49.038 on floor for a 195.273 team-total season average.

Sophomore Moriah Martin leads DU with a 39.210 all-around RQS, as well as a 9.915 vault RQS... While not leading the team, Martin adds a 9.840 RQS on floor, 9.810 bars RQS and 9.755 beam RQS... Senior Louise Mercer leads the Pioneers on bars with a 9.855 RQS while sophomore Melodie Pulgarin Linero is the top DU gymnast on beam with a 9.810 RQS.

DU head coach Melissa Kutcher-Rinehart is in her 14th season leading the Pioneers' program... Since arriving in 1999, Kutcher-Rinehart has led Denver to 13 consecutive appearances in NCAA Regionals and three NCAA National Championship berths.

ABOUT SACRAMENTO STATE - The Hornets are 9-8 overall and went 1-2 in WAC meets... Sacramento State is coming off a season-best 195.275 in its regular-season finale in the San Jose State tri-meet, finishing second behind host SJSU's winning 195.850... The Hornets' won the first of their back-to-back WAC titles the last time that USU hosted the conference meet in 2006.

Sacramento State has a team-total RQS of 194.160, adding RQS's of 48.715 on vault, 48.450 on bars, 48.335 on beam and 48.860 on floor... The Hornets have a season average of 193.241, stemming from average of 48.582 on vault, 48.102 on bars, 47.925 on beam and 48.623 on floor.

Freshman Kalliah McCartney leads the Hornets with a 39.060 RQS in the all-around, coming off her school-record 39.375 all-around score in the SJSU tri-meet, finishing just behind SJSU's Thomasina Wallace's winning score of 39.550... McCartney also leads Sacramento State on vault (9.795 RQS) and beam (9.795 RQS), while adding RQS's of 9.820 on floor and 9.740 on bars... Sophomore Kailey Hansen tops the team with a 9.850 floor RQS while junior Nicole Meiller leads the team with a 9.830 RQS on bars.

Sacramento State head coach Kim Hughes is in his 31st season at the helm of the Hornets' program... Hughes led Sac State to the 2006 and 2007 WAC Championships, earning 2006 WAC and West Region Coach of the Year honors.

ABOUT SAN JOSE STATE - The Spartans won the WAC regular-season title with a perfect 3-0 conference ledger, along with a 12-6 overall mark... SJSU is coming off its season-high and second-best mark in school history with a 195.850 in winning a home tri-meet with Sacramento State and UC Davis.

SJSU has an team-total RQS of 194.690, including RQS's of 48.655 on vault, 48.720 on bars, 48.590 on beam and 49.030 on floor... The Spartans have a 194.286 season average, posting averages of 48.566 on vault, 48.500 on bars, 48.357 on beam and 48.875 on floor.

Senior Thomasina Wallace leads SJSU, coming off winning her 10th all-around title of the season with the second-highest mark in school history with a 39.550, just behind her own record of 39.575... Wallace has an all-around RQS of 39.445, leading the Spartans in all four events with RQS's of 9.840 on vault, 9.890 on bars, 9.860 on beam and 9.865 on floor.

SJSU head coach Wayne Wright is in his 11th season at the helm of the Spartans' program... He has led SJSU to five NCAA Regional Championships since 2003, and coached at least two gymnasts to regionals if the team did not qualify.

ABOUT SOUTHERN UTAH - The Thunderbirds are 4-11 overall and 1-2 in WAC action on the season, coming off a season-high 195.875 in their home finale Friday against Boise State before posting a 194.800 Monday at BYU.

SUU has a team-total season RQS of 193.870, 48.765 on vault, 48.635 on bars, 48.465 on beam and 48.630 on floor... The T-Birds tally a 193.535 season average, posting averages of 48.625 on vault, 48.348 on bars, 48.068 on beam and 48.495 on floor.

Freshman Rochelle Bernier leads SUU on vault with a 9.800 RQS, while junior Alyssa Click tops the team on bars with a 9.790 RQS... Junior Caitlin Kennedy has a team-best beam RQS of 9.795 and freshman Brittney Jensen leads the team on floor with a 9.790 RQS... None of the SUU gymnasts have an all-around RQS.

An Aggie alum and former USU assistant coach, SUU head coach Scott Bauman is in his 21st season at the helm of the T-Birds, earning WAC Coach of the Year and North Central Region Coach of the Year honors in 2010... Bauman has led SUU to four consecutive NCAA Regional appearances and led the T-Birds to the 2010 WAC Championship trophy.

SERIES HISTORY VS. WAC CHAMPIONSHIPS FIELD -

DENVER - The Aggies and Pioneers would make Hugh Downs and Barbara Walter proud, as the series history is tied at 20-20... Utah State is 7-5 vs. Denver in Logan... Saturday is the first meeting between USU and DU since 2010 when the teams met in a tri-meet hosted by BYU.

SACRAMENTO STATE - Utah State has a combined slurpee wielding convenience store mark of 7-11 record all-time vs. Sacramento State, including 2-4 at Logan... This is the Hornets' second visit to the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum this season after a dual on Feb. 17, with USU capturing its lone WAC win of the season with a 193.875-193.400 victory.

SAN JOSE STATE - USU is also an even 12-12 all-time vs. SJSU, including 4-3 at Logan... Saturday is also SJSU's second visit to Utah State, competing in a dual on Feb. 10, and the Spartans speared the Aggies, 194.950-194.875... USU has been on the short end of the last three meetings with SJSU, as the Aggies' last win over the Spartans was at the 2010 WAC Championships.

SOUTHERN UTAH - The Aggies are a combined 37-36 all-time against the T-Birds, including 21-9 at Logan... This is the fourth meeting between USU and SUU, and the Aggies snapped a 24-meet losing skein to the T-Birds on March 9 at Cedar City with a 194.200-193.700 win, for USU's first win over SUU since 2005... Like Sac State and SJSU, this is SUU's second trip to Logan this season, as the Aggies and T-Birds also tangled in a tri-meet hosted by USU with Boise State on Jan. 27, won by SUU with a 194.525 while USU was second with a 194.050... The teams also met in a tri-meet hosted by BYU on Feb. 25, with the host Cougars winning 194.100, while the T-Birds tallied a 193.925 and the Aggies were third with a 193.625.

SUPER 16 - The 16 gymnasts on USU's 2012 roster is the most on an Aggie roster since 2006, after having 15 on the 2011 roster, 13 on the 2010 ledger, 12 on the 2009 roster... USU had 14 gymnasts on each of the 2008 and 2007 rosters, while having 16 on the 2006 roster.

BEEHIVE STATERS - Utah State has three gymnasts from the state of Utah in senior Haley Hogan (Centerville/Viewmont HS/North Davis Gymnastics), sophomore Christina Nye (North Logan/Logan HS/Tytans Gymnastics) and freshman Ashley Follett (American Fork, Utah/American Fork HS/All American Gymnastics).

LAST TIME OUT - A top road bars score and second-best overall score of the season on the apparatus paced Utah State gymnastics to a 192.975 and a third-place finish in a quad meet hosted by No. 18 Arizona Friday night, joined by Bridgeport and Air Force.

The host Wildcats of Arizona won the meet with a 196.525, followed by the Purple Knights of Bridgeport with a 193.525. USU's 192.975 was good for third, just ahead of the Falcons of Air Force's 192.175.

USU's 192.975 total came from its second-best bars score of the season with a 49.050, along with a 48.250 on vault, 48.150 on beam and a 47.525 on floor.

Arizona's winning score of 196.525 resulted from a 49.075 on vault, 49.225 on bars, 48.950 on beam and a 49.275 on floor. Bridgeport notched a 48.125 on vault, 48.450 on bars, 47.900 on beam and 49.050 on floor for its final score of 193.525. Air Force posted a 192.175 total from a 48.125 on vault, 48.400 on bars, 47.425 on beam and a 48.225 floor score.

Host Arizona swept the top individual honors as Aubree Cristello won the all-around with a 39.475 as well as taking top honors on floor with a 9.925 and winning vault with a 9.875. Allison Flores captured the bars crown with a 9.875, the same score that Britnie Jones posted to win beam.

The Aggies were without the services of junior Amanda Watamaniuk Friday night due to a season-ending injury sustained during practice this week.

USU opened the meet on floor, with freshman Ashley Follett leading off with an 8.925 followed by a 9.750 from Holliday, the third-straight meet in a row with a 9.750. Montoya then notched a 9.775, preceding a 9.725 from freshman Susie Miller. Jones tallied a 9.150 before Landes rounded out the rotation with a 9.125, giving USU a 47.525 floor total. Sophomore Christina Nye registered a 9.350 in an exhibition performance on floor.

The Aggies were on vault for the second rotation, with Holiday starting things off with a 9.550, before Miller followed with a 9.525. Landes then landed a 9.775, preceding fellow freshman Kaitlyn Betts' 9.675. Jones registered a 9.725 before Montoya completed the lineup with a 9.425.

That gave USU a 48.250 on vault for a 95.775 two-rotation total. The Aggies were still in fourth at the meet's middle point, closing the gap on Air Force, who was third with a 95.875, while Bridgeport was in second with a 96.950 and Arizona continued to lead with a 98.300.

On bars for the third rotation, Landes led off USU's line-up with a 9.825, preceding a 9.775 by Holliday and a 9.825 from Montoya. Jones notched a 9.850, before Betts posted a 9.775. Nye notched a 9.275 to complete the Aggies' bars rotation. USU hung a 49.050 team-total on the board for bars team-total, its second-best mark of the season on the event. Freshman Jenna Saxton recorded a 9.425 in a bars exhibition performance.

The Aggies overtook the Falcons of Air Force for third with a 144.825 compared to a 144.050 for Air Force. Bridgeport remained in second with a 145.075 while Arizona continued to lead with a 147.250.
