END OF SEASON - ­Utah State finished the season 6-18 overall and 2-6 in Western Athletic Conference action, finishing fifth at the WAC Championships meet... While USU did not qualify as a team to the NCAA North Central Regional Gymnastics meet, the Aggies sent six individuals.

USU returns seven letterwinners, including five all-WAC honorees... The Aggies also return three that missed either a large portion or the entire season due to injuries.

IN THE RANKINGS - Utah State was ranked No. 38 in the final rankings... The Aggies were the fifth-highest among WAC schools, with WAC Champion Boise State finishing the highest at No. 23, while conference runner-up Southern Utah was 28th... San Jose State was No. 30, Sacramento State was 34th, followed by Utah State at No. 38 and Cal State Fullerton was 43rd.

UTAH STATE RECORD BOOK UPDATE - Utah State gymnasts had six individual event marks and five season average marks in the USU record book.

Freshman Jasmine Minion posted four of the six of the individual event high scores, as her 9.900 at the NCAA North Central Regional was the third-highest score in school history... Minion is one of eight different Aggie gymnasts to post a 9.900... She also had a 9.875 on Jan. 27 at Cal State Fullerton, which is the fourth-highest posting in USU history and the ninth different Aggie to log that... Minion also had two 9.850's this season, doing it last at the Texas Woman's quad meet on March 14, which is the fifth-highest score... In the same Texas Woman's quad meet that she had the previously mentioned vault score, Minion also had a 9.900 on floor, the fourth-highest score in USU history.

Freshman Nicole Simoneau posted a 9.900 on bars in a home dual against Southern Utah on Feb. 21, which is the fourth-highest score in school history, becoming the 11th Aggie gymnast with that posting.

Senior Megan Tschida's WAC Championship score of 9.925 on floor (March 29), is the third-highest score on the apparatus in school history and she is the 10th USU gymnast to log that score... Tschida also has the No. 2 spot on the list with a 9.950 during her freshman season of 2005.

On the season average list, Simoneau's 9.822 average on bars is No. 2 on USU's top 20 season average bars list, trailing Christy Denson's 9.856 from 1999.

Minion's average of 9.759 is No. 11, while fellow freshman's Jackie Dillon's average of 9.732 is No. 15... Sophomore Heather Heinrich's 9.725 average is tied for No. 17... Heinrich holds the No. 20 spot with a 9.723 average in 2007.

Tschida had a season-average of 9.788 on floor, which is No. 12... She has the No. 4 spot with a 9.831 average from her freshman season of 2005.

ABOUT UTAH STATE - The Aggies ended the season with a 6-18 (.250) overall and 2-6 Western Athletic Conference ledger... Utah State had its five best scores of the season in the final five meets of the year... USU posted its season-best 194.450 in a home dual with San Jose State (March 7), topping the Spartans' 194.125... The Aggies' second-best mark was a 194.250 in a dual loss at BYU (196.300) on March 10... At the WAC Championships, USU logged its third-best mark of the season with a 194.150 in finishing fifth... Host Boise State won the team title with a 194.925, while San Jose State was second at 194.725. Southern Utah tallied a 194.575 for third, while Sacramento State was fourth at 194.275, followed by Utah State's 194.150 and Cal State Fullerton's sixth-place finish at 192.650... A 193.900 in the quad meet at Texas Woman's on March 14 was good for USU's fourth-highest score of the season, finishing third behind Kentucky's 195.200 and Texas Woman's with 194.200, but ahead of Centenary's 192.025... The Aggies' No. 5 best mark of the season was a 193.150 in a home dual loss to Southern Utah on March 21, after the Thunderbirds notched a 195.075.

All five of USU's top vault scores came on the road, with the season-best 48.875 coming at BYU (March 10), while its second-highest mark of 48.850 was at the Texas Woman's quad meet on March 14... The Aggies logged their third-highest vault mark of 48.775 at the WAC Championships on March 29, followed by a 48.650 at Southern Utah on Feb. 4 and a 48.625 at the Denver quad meet on Feb. 9.

The Aggies had their top two bars marks at home with a season-high 48.750 in the San Jose State dual (March 7), while the second-best score of 48.650 came against Denver (Feb. 29)... USU's third, fourth and fifth marks all came on the road with a 48.525 at the Texas Woman's quad meet on March 14, a 48.450 at Utah with Southern Utah on Feb. 22 and a 48.400 at BYU on March 10.

Utah State's top five beam scores were just the opposite with the top two coming on the road and the next three posting at home... A season-best 48.675 at BYU on March 10 was followed by a 48.550 at the WAC Championships (March 29)... The third-best and top home score was a 48.125 in the dual against San Jose State (March 7), while the fourth-best was a 48.000 against Sacramento State (Jan. 18) and the fifth-best was a 47.725 against Southern Utah (March 21).

USU's top five floor scores were scattered from early to late in the season, with the top score of 49.050 coming in the home dual with San Jose State (March 7)... The second-best score of 48.975 was done at the Texas Woman's quad meet (March 14) while the number three score of 48.900 was logged twice, most recently at the WAC Championships (March 29)... Number four and five spots came at home, with the fourth-best score of 48.850 coming in the home tri-meet with BYU and New Hampshire (Feb. 15) while the fifth-highest score of 48.725 came in the home dual against Boise State (Jan. 22).

IN THE WORDS OF ET: OUCH - Utah State was severely bitten by the injury bug, as four gymnasts suffered some form of season-ending injury: freshman Erica Huelsmann did not compete all season after having preseason shoulder surgery; Huelsmann ended up redshirting the season... Sophomore Devin Markle missed the first two meets of the season recovering from a preseason injury and only saw limited action in two meets before suffering a season-ending knee injury... Freshman Maegan Snodgrass suffered an injury in the second meet of the season and was out the remainder of the year... Freshman Chelsea Marquardt was injured during third meet of season and after missing four meets, returned to bars only action.

W-L RECORD HISTORY - It was the second time in last three years that USU had a below .500 winning percentage after going 5-14 (.263) in 2006... Utah State's regional ranking of No. 8 was also its lowest in the program's 31-year history... The Aggies' fifth-place WAC finish was their lowest conference placing since 1992.

NCAA REGIONAL - Six members of the Aggies' squad were selected to the NCAA North Central Regional meet on April 12, hosted by the University of Minnesota at Minneapolis, Minn. Of the six USU individuals, two were all-arounders and four were individual specialists.

Junior Nicki Felley and sophomore Heather Heinrich were selected as all-arounders, while senior Megan Tschida (floor) along with freshmen Jasmine Minion (vault), Lyndsie Boone (beam) and Nicole Simoneau (bars) were all chosen in their respective events.

Minion was USU's top finisher, posting a season-best 9.900 on vault, in finishing in a three-way tie for second with Michelle Stout of Arkansas and Ashley Postell of Utah. Kristina Baskett of Utah won the vault with a 9.925. Minion logged her score during the second rotation and sat atop of the leaderboard with Stout until Utah went on bars for the final rotation, knocking Minion off and denying her berth to the National Championships.

USU's other top finisher was freshman Nicole Simoneau placing in a three-way tie for eighth with a 9.800. It was Simoneau's 13th posting of 9.800 or better this season.

The Aggies' third individual was senior Megan Tschida on floor and she placed tied for 14th with a 9.825 while the fourth individual, freshman Lyndsie Boone, was 42nd on beam with an 8.275.

In the all-around, sophomore Heather Heinrich was 19th with a 37.650 while junior Nicki Felley finished 21st with a 36.975.

Heinrich was tied for 29th on beam with a 9.575, tied for 28th on vault with a 9.675, tied for 37th on floor with a 9.650 and 41st on bars with an 8.750.

Felley finished tied for 33rd on vault with a 9.625, 35th on bars with a 9.500, 41st on beam with an 8.975 and 42nd on floor, notching an 8.975.

The last USU gymnast to individually qualify for the NCAA National Championships was Amber Jamison in 1999.

Utah won the team title with a 196.950, while host Minnesota was third with a 195.275. Arizona posted a 194.275 to finish fourth, just ahead of Southern Utah's 194.050 for fifth and Iowa was sixth at 193.875.

REGIONAL HISTORY - In the 31-year history of the USU gymnastics program, the Aggies have qualified for regionals 26 times, with the highest finish coming in 1982 when the Aggies placed second and went on to the National Championships, where they placed ninth... USU's most recent appearance at the regional championships was in 2007 when the Aggies placed sixth at the North Central Regional meet.

IN THE NATIONAL RANKINGS - Utah State gymnastics began the 2008 season ranked 33rd in the country according to the Troester Women's Preseason Coaches Poll, before falling as low as No. 46 in the Jan. 21 rankings. USU finished the season at No. 38 in the final rankings.

Six USU opponents were ranked in final Top 25: No. 2 Utah (Feb. 22), No. 9 Oklahoma (Feb. 9), 12th-ranked Denver (Feb. 9 and Feb. 29), No. 21 Kentucky (March 14), 23rd-ranked Boise State (Jan. 11, Jan. 22, March 29) and No. 24 BYU (Feb. 15, March 10)... Other Aggie opponents just outside the top 25 are 28th-ranked Southern Utah (Feb. 4, Feb. 22, March 21, March 29), No. 30 San Jose State (March 7 and March 29), No. 30 Sacramento State (Jan. 18 and March 29) and 37th-ranked New Hampshire (Feb. 15), ... Other USU opponents include 41st-ranked Texas Woman's (March 14), No. 43 Cal State Fullerton (Jan. 27 and March 29), No. 54 Centenary (March 14) and 59th-ranked Air Force (Feb. 9).

ATTENDANCE - According to the Troester Gymnastics rankings (released May 19), Utah State was ranked 31st in the nation in average attendance (1,027 per home meet)... The 2,029 fans for the Aggies' home tri-meet with BYU and New Hampshire on Feb. 15 was 22nd among the highest maximum attendance for a single meet in the country... USU was second in the WAC in average attendance, trailing Southern Utah, who was No. 14 with an average of 2,217.

The Aggies competed at five of the top 21 teams, performing at No. 1 Utah (Feb. 22), at No. 14 Southern Utah (Feb. 4), No. 19 Minnesota (NCAA Regionals on April 12), No. 20 BYU (March 10) and No. 21 Denver (Feb. 9)... Other WAC schools were No. 36 Boise State, No. 42 San Jose State, No. 57 Cal State Fullerton and No. 61 Sacramento State.

ALL-WAC HONOREES - USU had five gymnasts earn all-WAC accolades this year, as senior Megan Tschida was co-WAC champ on floor to earn first-team recognition. Tschida notched a 9.925 on floor to tie for first. Joining Tschida on the first-team all-WAC list was sophomore Heather Heinrich's tied for third-place finish on beam with a 9.825.

Four other marks earned USU gymnasts second-team honors, led by freshman Nicole Simoneau, who was tied for fourth on bars with a 9.775, while junior Nicky Felley was fifth in the all-around with a 38.925 and was tied for sixth on beam with a 9.800. Freshman Jasmine Minion rounded out the Aggie honorees with a 9.800 on vault, good for a tie for sixth.

ACADEMIC ALL-WAC - Utah State had six gymnasts earn academic all-Western Athletic Conference accolades... Of the 13 Utah State student-athletes to be recognized by the WAC, six were gymnasts, including one who is receiving academic all-conference honors for the fourth straight year, one being honored for the third time, while two more are being honored for the second time in a row.

ALL-WAC RETURNERS - USU returns four of its five all-WAC honorees from this season, in Heather Heinrich (first-team beam), Jasmine Minion (second-team vault), Nicole Simoneau (second-team bars) and Nicki Felley (second-team beam and all-around).

MINION TABBED WAC GYMNASTICS SPECIALIST OF THE WEEK - Utah State gymnast Jasmine Minion has been named the Western Athletic Conference Gymnastics Specialist of the Week it was announced by the conference office on March 17, for the week of March 10-16.

Minion, a freshman from Memphis, Tenn. (Bolton HS) recorded a career-best 9.900 on floor at the Texas Woman's quad meet (3/14). The mark tied her for first in the event and is Utah State's first 9.900 on any event this season. Minion's 9.900 is the second-best mark on floor in the WAC this season and ranks as the fourth-highest score on floor in USU history. She becomes the 15th Aggie in school history to notch a 9.900 on floor. Minion also posted a career-best mark on vault with a 9.875, placing her third at BYU (3/10). The 9.875 on vault is the fourth-best mark in USU history as she becomes just the ninth athlete in USU history to post such a score on the apparatus. Minion's 9.875 on vault is the second-highest score in the WAC this season in the event, as she is the only second gymnast in the conference to post that score.

This is the first conference honor for a USU gymnast this season after having three gymnast of the week and two specialist of the week accolades last year.

2008 TEAM CAPTAINS - Seniors Kelly Patterson and Katie Omann along with junior Nicki Felley are serving as team captains. This is Patterson's third season in the position, while it is Omann's and Felley's first.

HEAD COACH RAY CORN - Ray Corn has created and maintained a tradition of success in his 31 years at Utah State, both in the gym and in the classroom.

As the only coach in USU's Division I gymnastics history, he has led the Aggies to the postseason 26 times, including five trips to the national championships. Corn owns an overall record of 442-444-2, with a regular-season record of 389-288-2.

Corn was named the Midwest Regional Coach of the Year in 1991, earned Big West Co-Coach of the Year honors in 1994 and was named Big West Coach of the Year in 1998 and 2001. He also earned Coach of the Year honors in the High Country Athletic Conference in 1986, 1987 and 1988 and was named WGC Coach of the Year in 2005.

Corn has coached three All-Americans, three Olympians, two World Championship competitors and had nine gymnasts qualify for the NCAA National Championships.

Jackie Dillon - Competed as an exhibitioner on bars at Boise State, scoring an 8.95... Also an exhibitioner in the Sac State dual, posting a season-high 9.55 on vault and an 8.45 on bars... Did not compete in the home Boise State dual... In the USU lineup officially for the first time in the Cal State Fullerton dual, she scored a 9.450 on bars, good for 10th-place... Posted a 9.050 (11th) on bars and a 9.625 (9th) on floor at the Southern Utah dual... Logged a 9.675 on floor (17th) at the Denver quad meet, as well as a 9.525 on vault as a exhibitioner... Tallied a 9.675 on floor (11th) in the BYU/New Hampshire tri-meet... Also tallied a career-best on the floor with a 9.900 at San Jose State with Boise State and Seattle Pacific (1/26), a mark that is tied for 19th in school history and tied for the best score for USU... Had season averages of 38.635 in all-around, 9.686 on floor exercise, 9.625 on vault, 9.325 on beam and 9.700 on bars... Her 9.700 bars average is the 14th-best single-season average in USU history... Earned second-team all-WAC honors by finishing sixth in the all-around at the WAC Championships with her career-best score of 39.050, after placing tied for fourth on bars (9.800), tied for sixth on floor (9.775), tied for eighth on beam (9.825) and 29th in vault (9.650)... Heather Heinrich - Was first in the all-around at Boise State, scoring a 36.875... Placed eighth on floor (9.350), ninth on vault (9.400) and tied for 10th on both bars (9.100) and beam (9.025)... In the Sac State dual, tallied 9.650 (4th) on vault and 9.600 (7th) on beam, as well as 8.950 (12th) on floor and 8.850 (12th) on bars, for a total of a 37.050 (6th) in the all-around, for a season high... Tallied season-highs in all three events she competed in at home against Boise State with a 9.800 (3rd) on beam, 9.750 (4th) on vault and 9.700 (7th) on bars... Maegan Snodgrass - Was an exhibitioner at the Boise State dual, with 9.55 on vault... Suffered an injury during warm-ups of the Sac State dual (1/18) and did not compete in any meets rest of season.

HIGH SCHOOL: Competed as a Level 10 gymnast with Olympus Gymnastics for Mary Wright... Was a member of the three-time club state champions... In 2005 she finished 15th in the all-around at the Regional Championships... Was also an Olympic weight lifter, finishing seventh in the nation in her age and weight group... In 2006, she won both the 18 & under and the 21 & under USA Weightlifting National Juniors Championship, setting an American National Schoolage Record in the snatch event... Graduated from Bingham High School with a 3.7 grade point average.
