LOGAN, Utah - The Mountain Rim Gymnastics Conference announced its academic all-conference honorees Tuesday afternoon and five Utah State student-athletes were named to the list.

To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must have a 3.2 cumulative grade-point average for the 2016-17 school year and have appeared on the squad list during the 2017 campaign.

The five Utah State gymnasts to receive MRGC accolades included three gymnasts who recently graduated in Katie Brown, Bailey McIntire and Hayley Sanzotti, as well as sophomore Madison Ward and freshman Kierra Miller.

The MRGC recognized a total of 55 student-athletes from its four member institutions in Boise State, BYU, Southern Utah and USU.

“My congratulations to all the student-athletes and MRGC member institution programs for their classroom achievements”, said Dr. Brian Evans, Chairman of the MRGC Board of Directors. “The academic accomplishments of these young women, in tandem with each program’s national ranking, is a remarkable feat.”

The Aggies concluded the 2017 season by placing sixth at the NCAA Regional Championships with a team score of 194.850 on April 1 at Alaska Airlines Arena in Seattle, Wash.

Prior to regionals, Utah State hosted the MRGC Championships and placed second with a 196.100, which is the best score the Aggies have ever produced in a conference championship meet. It was also the fifth-best home score in school history and ninth-best overall.

The Aggies’ second-placed finish was their highest placing at a conference championship meet since 2005, when they captured the WAC crown.

Ward garnered first-team all-MRGC honors on both vault and floor. She tied for first on floor at the conference championships with a career-high-tying 9.900, a score she reached six times on the season, and tied for third on vault with a 9.800.

Sanzotti notched a career-high-tying 9.900 on beam to tie for first on the event and garner first-team all-conference recognition and McIntire was tabbed second-team beam after tying for sixth on the event with a 9.850.

McIntire led the Aggies with 455.650 points on the season, contributing 13.98 percent of the team’s all-event scores. Ward led Utah State on both bars (136.700; 16.76 percent) and floor (138.200; 16.90 percent).
