LOGAN, Utah - Utah State gymnastics head coach Ray Corn announced Monday that Chelsea Marquardt has signed with the Aggies for the 2007-08 season.

Marquardt, a native of Aurora, Colo., is a member of the Champion's Gymnastics Team in Denver, Colo., and was a priority signing for Corn.

"Chelsea is the kind of athlete that will help us continue to build a top notch program here at Utah State," Corn said. "She is an exceptionally strong vaulter, finishing as high as second at the national level, and a very good all around gymnast. She also is very strong on the bar and the beam. You don't normally find this caliber of gymnast after the second signing day, so we are fortunate to have her at Utah State."

Marquardt, a fifth year level 10 gymnast and two time national championship qualifier, is excited to attend a school that is a top notch academic institution and has a strong division one gymnastics program. With her track record of success, she is excited and ready for the challenge of collegiate gymnastics.

"I have focused for so long on taking this step into collegiate gymnastics," Marquardt said. "Now that the time has come, I am excited to prove my skills at the next level."

She plans to major in an education related field at Utah State, and enjoy the mountain setting of beautiful Logan, Utah.

Marquardt is the daughter of Will and Corina Marquardt, and she has two brothers, Blake (20) and Mitchell (13).
