Nov. 29, 2001

LOGAN, Utah - Utah State gymnastics will host six home meets in the 2002 season, including the inaugural Western Gymnastics Conference meet. Opponents to visit the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum include Arizona State, Boise State, Cal State Fullerton and Denver University, and in-state competition BYU, Utah and Southern Utah.

Of Utah State's 10 opponents this season, five - Utah (No. 5), Arizona State (No. 9), BYU (No. 11), Ohio State (No. 21) and Denver University (No. 24) - were ranked among the top 25 in last season's final poll. In regional rankings, USU finished the 2001 season in seventh in the North Central regional, behind Utah (No. 1), BYU (No. 3) and Denver University (No. 5). At the inaugural WGC meet on March 22, USU will host Boise State, Cal State Fullerton, Denver University and Southern Utah. The Aggies open the 2002 season with a home meet against Cal State Fullerton on Friday, Jan. 4 at 7 p.m.

"This is one of the best schedules we've had in a long time, with the opportunity to bring in Cal State Fullerton and Arizona State," said head coach Ray Corn. "It's difficult for us to come up with many schools outside of those we compete with year-in and year-out because we have such great local competition in BYU, Utah, Boise State and Southern Utah."

Season tickets are on sale until Thursday, Jan. 3, and may be purchased for $30 each. In addition to dual meets with Cal State Fullerton, BYU, Utah and Boise State, the season ticket includes the Arizona State-Southern Utah meet, the 2002 Western Gymnastics Championship meet and a reserved seat for the Olympic Torch ceremony to be held prior to the BYU meet on Feb. 6.
