Utah State soccer opened its month-long road series on a high note Friday, as it topped border foe Idaho State, 2-0.

The Aggies struck midway through the first half, with a goal from the team's leading scorer, freshman midfielder Ashley Cardozo. After holding the single goal for the majority of the game, sophomore forward Alecia Robinson added the insurance goal in the 89th minute.

With the win, Utah State improves to 3-1-1 on the season, while Idaho State falls to 1-3-0.

Senior midfielder Erin Rickenbach made her first-career start Friday. Additionally, Robinson scored her first goal of the season, and senior forward Wesley Hamblin moved to third on the USU all-time assist list, recording her 15th-career assist.

The teams traded shots back-and-forth through the early minutes of the match, but a yellow card against the Bengals spurred the Aggies ahead. With the card in the 25th minute, Cardozo took USU's first penalty kick of the season, making it past the ISU keeper into the corner.

As the teams battled through the remaining minutes of play, it looked like the 1-0 score would stand. With less than a minute remaining, Hamblin threw ball in to Cardozo. She intended to maintain possession to run out the clock, but instead found Robinson at the top of the 6-yard box and was able to extend the Aggies' lead in the final seconds.

On the day, Utah State held the slight shot advantage on Idaho State, 15-13, but the Aggies recorded a season-high nine shots on-goal, while the Bengals had two. Senior Sara Cobb played the full match in the net, recording two saves and earning her third shutout of the season.

Utah State will have a week off now, as they prepare to play at Minnesota. The Aggies will take on the Gophers on Friday, Sept. 8, at 6 p.m. (MT).
