Struggling to gain offensive momentum, Utah State soccer fell to Minnesota, 5-0, Friday night.

Utah State falls to 3-2-1 on the season with the loss, while Minnesota improves to 4-1-2.

Minnesota controlled the match early on, keeping the majority of possession in its attacking third. The Gophers weren't able to capitalize on their control until later though, scoring in the 39th minute. Utah State got just one shot in in the first half, coming off the foot of freshman midfielder Sadie Mertlich.

Out of the break, Minnesota continued to gain momentum. Just four minutes into the second half, the Gophers added their second goal of the day, and kept building on it. Goals were added in the 55th, 65th, and 82nd minutes.

The Gophers ended the game with 17 shots, 10 of which were on goal. The Aggies tallied just three shots, none of which were on frame. Senior Sara Cobb minded the net for the first 68 minutes of the match, tallying five saves. Sophomore Maggie Richey then saw her first action of the season in Cobb's relief.

The Aggies have another long break now before returning to the Midwest next week. Utah State will play at Eastern Michigan on Friday, Sept. 15, at 3 p.m. (MT). The weekend will then continue in the non-conference finale at Oakland, on Sunday, Sept. 17, in a 10 a.m. match.
