SEATTLE - Utah State women's soccer completed its four-match road trip with a 3-1 loss to Seattle University at Championship Field in Seattle, Wash on Sunday. The Aggies have now lost two-straight matches for the first time since September 2008.

With the win, the Redhawks improve to 5-5, while the Aggies fall to 4-4-1 with the loss. Seattle is now 3-0 against Western Athletic Conference squads also earning victories against Boise State and Idaho earlier this season. The series is now tied 1-1 with both teams winning on their home fields.

Seattle took the lead with a goal in the 26th minute. Kara Kuttler scored her fifth goal of the season unassisted from 15 yards out as the Redhawks took the early 1-0 lead. In the 58th minute, Seattle extended its lead to 2-0 when M'ily Reiter scored her first goal of the season off a deflected shot.

The Aggies got on the board in the 58th minute. On the kickoff after the goal by Reiter, junior midfielder Stefani Shiozaki got the ball to Camano Island, Wash., native, Lauren Hansen. The junior forward took the through ball and beat Redhawk goalkeeper Madison Goverde one-on-one to cut the lead to 2-1. Hansen now has four goals this season, while Shiozaki has two assists.

The home squad struck back in the 73rd minute when Chelsea Jennings headed in her first goal of the season off the cross from Taylor Fannin.

Seattle ended the match out-shooting the Aggies 18-11, including 11-7 in the second half. USU did have the advantage on corner kicks, 5-4. Sophomore goalkeeper Molli Merrill ended the match with six saves after registering nine in the loss to No. 25 Washington on Friday.

Next week, Utah State will play a "home" match against Utah on Thursday, Sept. 24 at Rio Tinto Stadium in Sandy, Utah. Rio Tinto Stadium is the home of Major League Soccer's Real Salt Lake. This is the first match that the Aggies have played in a professional stadium.

 

 

USU's next true home match with take place on Oct. 1 against Idaho State. Utah State will conclude the week at BYU on Saturday, Sept. 26. The kickoff for that match has been changed from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.
