MOSCOW, Idaho - Senior forward Nicole (Feuz) Gooch tallied her second hat trick of the season, and just the eighth hat trick in school history, to lead Utah State soccer to a 3-0 triumph against Idaho here Sunday. Both of Gooch's hat tricks have come off the bench for the Aggies.

Sunday's win stopped a 13-match road winless streak dating back to September 4, 2003 and improved Utah State's record to 4-7-1 overall and 1-1-1 in Big West action. With the loss, Idaho fell to 2-8-0 and stayed winless in the conference at 0-3.

"We did a much better job of finishing [Sunday]," said head coach Heather Cairns. "We tried to mix things up in our attack to have more looks and I think it worked for us."

With her second career hat trick Sunday, Gooch joins Brigid Turner (1999-2002) as the only other player in school history to record two or more career hat tricks. Turner tallied four during her career. With 14 points this season Gooch also moves into a tie with Amber Tracy (2002) and Jayme Gordy (1997) for seventh on USU's single-season points list.

Sophomore midfielder Charity Weston also got in on the hat trick action as she put up a hat trick of the assist variety. Weston has now dished out a season-high five assists for the Aggies this season and joins Sara Cowley (1998) and Emily Sutherland (1998) in a tie for second place on USU's single-season assist list. Weston needs just three more assists this season to surpass Amber Tracy (7, 2003) at the top of the list.

Gooch broke the scoreless tie at 17:41 as Weston placed a cross from the right side that Gooch redirected past Idaho keeper Lindsay Smith for what proved to be the game winner. Gooch has recorded a team-high two game-winning goals this season.

Weston then teamed with Chanel Blaquiere to set up Gooch just over three minutes later (20:57) on a through ball that Gooch booted into the right corner of the net.

The Aggies controlled the ball much of the opening 45 minutes as they tallied six shots to Idaho's two and marked four corner kicks to UI's zero.

The Vandals came out more aggressive in the second half as they doubled their shot production, but the USU defense held firm as keeper Megan Mills recorded her school record 14th career shutout.

Gooch completed the hat trick, and the scoring for the match, in the 86th minute on another through ball from Weston that Gooch punched past Smith.

"Nicole is a great spark for us off the bench," added Cairns. "But our defense also deserves some credit for the excellent job they did in shutting down Idaho when they put some pressure on us to start the second half."

Up next for the Aggies is their first home match since a 5-0 shutout of UC Davis on Sept. 23. USU faces Long Beach State at Bell Field on Friday, October 5 at 3 p.m.
