Soccer Fails To Put One Home, Falls To Cal State Fullerton Late Friday Night
Oct. 23, 2004
FULLERTON, Calif. - Utah State soccer had its four-match unbeaten streak snapped as the Aggies failed to score in a 1-0 loss to Cal State Fullerton late Friday night. The loss kept the Aggies from getting back to the .500 mark for the first time since an Aug. 30 victory against Weber State moved them to 1-1 overall.
Friday's loss also dropped the Aggies to 6-8-1 overall and 3-2-1 in Big West action, while Fullerton improved to 8-7-1 and 4-1-1. Utah State has gone 1-8-1 on the road thus far.
"Our players came out and played with a lot of heart [Friday], but we just didn't have it," said head coach Heather Cairns. "We now need to refocus for Sunday and come out and get a win on the road."
The Titans' lone goal started with Fullerton's Lauryn Welch whose corner kick was flicked into the box by Kandace Wilson, finding the feet of Titan midfielder Ashley O'Brien, who shot the ball through a crowd of players into the left corner for what proved to be the game-winner.
Aggie junior Chanel Blaquiere recorded a team-high three shots for USU, but Fullerton doubled-up the Aggies in that category, 20-10.
Keeper Megan Mills worked the entire match for the Aggies, allowing the lone goal while recording three saves.
Utah State plays its final road match of the season at UC Riverside on Sunday, Oct. 24. The match is slated to start at 2 p.m. (MDT)
