Clark's Pair Of Goals Lead Aggies to 2-1 Win Over Hawai`i
Oct. 25, 2008
HONOLULU - - Senior Candice Clark made the most of her final trip to Honolulu as an Aggie. The forward scored both goals in the Aggies' 2-1 win over Hawai`i on Friday. With the win, the Aggies improved to 10-7-1 and 5-0 in the Western Athletic Conference. The Aggies can clinch their first regular season WAC title with a win against San Jose State on Sunday. Utah State has secured a spot in the WAC Tournament with 15 points. The Aggies have now won five-straight matches. This is third-straight season that Utah State has won five conference matches. If the Aggies win one more conference match they will break the school record for conference matches won with six. "It was a game with not a lot of possessions," USU head coach Heather Cairns said. "What we were able to do was make the shots that we did have count. We worked hard to generate good shots." The Aggies jumped on the board first in the fifth minute of the match when Clark scored her third goal of the season off the pass from freshman defender Summer Tillotson. It was her second assist of the season. The Rainbow Wahine tied the score at 1-1 in the 55th minute off the goal from senior forward Taryn Fukuroku. Clark gave the Aggies the lead for good in the 84th minute with her fourth goal of the season and her second game-winning goal on the year. Clark took the pass from yet another freshman, forward Shantel Flanary, and kept the Aggies' undefeated conference season alive. "Candice was fired up today; she was ready to play and just really broke through today," Cairns said. "She has been doing really great things and just not getting the assists. Candice has always played well against Hawai`i. She had two shots and two goals that is an amazing feat. She was definitely the leader in our attack today."
