USU Soccer Falls To Long Beach State In Double OT

LOGAN, Utah - Utah State's women's soccer team fell to Long Beach State 2-1 in double overtime Sunday afternoon at Tower Field. This was the second time in as many games that the Aggies have forced play into a double overtime situation. Friday USU sophomore Jessica Ebner scored the game-winning goal against Pacific in the second overtime period. The Aggies loss brings them to 4-12 on the year (2-5 in conference) while Long Beach State moves to 7-7-3 overall and 4-2-2 in Big West play.
Both teams came out aggressive in the first half with Long Beach State getting off eight shots on goal and Utah State taking aim at the net four times. Neither team managed a score and both sides remained scoreless at the half.
Long Beach State caught Utah State off guard in the opening moments of the second half as Marisa Barragan knocked in a goal for LBSU from 20 yards out just 43 seconds into the half. Utah State did not give up and popped off five shots on goal throughout the half before senior Jayme Gordy (Cheyenne, Wyo.) found the net from six yards out off a pass a pass from fellow senior Ashley Cracroft (West Valley, Utah) at the 82:57 mark to send the game into overtime.
In the first overtime period Utah State had three shots on goal and LBSU turned in two shots but neither team could convert its efforts and the game was sent into double overtime. The Beach's Sarah Aquilar ended the game two minutes later as she scored from five feet out at 106:21.
Utah State will close out the 2000 season when it heads to Boise, Idaho to take on Boise State Saturday, Nov. 4 at 1 p.m.
