Soccer Drops Final Game of the Season in Double Overtime, 3-2
Nov. 4, 2001
LOGAN, Utah - Utah State women's soccer lost its final game of the season, 3-2 in double overtime, to Idaho at Tower Field Sunday. The Aggies end their year with a 6-11-1 overall record, and a 3-6 mark in Big West action.
"This was just a heartbreaking loss, and a tough way to end the season," said USU head coach Jennifer Kennedy Croft. "Both teams played well, but Idaho stuck to it and their keeper really kept them in the game."
The loss marked the first time this season USU lost a game in which it scored first. Michelle Eversman put the Aggies on the scoreboard with her second goal of the year 11:29 into the game off an assist from Becky Ward. The teams were tied 1-1 at half, as Idaho's Jaci Pelton scored at the 31-minute mark.
Eighteen minutes into the second half, Jennifer Kiebel scored her first goal of the day for the Vandals, while Utah State's Brigid Turner tied the game at 2-2, posting her third goal of the season.
The teams played one 15-minute overtime period, ending tied at 2-2. In the second overtime, Kiebel scored off an assist from Megan Cummings, giving Idaho the sudden death win 4:52 into the second overtime.
Aggie goalkeeper Tracy Brady posted six saves on the day, moving her career saves total to 114, third among USU goalies. She played all 110 minutes of the match. Megan Edge and Sara Cowley each took two shots on the afternoon, while Amber Tracy shot once for the Aggies.
The Aggies' six wins on the season are the second-most in their six-year history, behind the eight victories USU recorded in 1999.
