Aggie Soccer Hosts Successful Alumni Event
March 2, 2009
LOGAN, Utah - The Utah State Women's Soccer team held its alumni event on Saturday, February 21st to a record turnout. The event gave alumni the chance to scrimmage against current Aggies. Former and current Aggies also toured the new Laub Athletics and Academics Complex.
Aggie head coach Heather Cairns was excited to see such a large number of former players come back and take part in the festivities.
"I was thrilled to welcome back a record-setting 44 former Aggie soccer players back to campus over the weekend," Coach Cairns said. "It was a great event because they played against and with our current team. The Alumni enjoyed playing together again and it allowed them an opportunity to meet our current players and put faces and personalities with the names they read about."
Along with the scrimmage, the event also gave Utah State an opportunity to honor the first graduating class of the women's soccer program. Six members of the original class were on hand for the event.
The event isn't just an opportunity for the alumni to get back in touch with the university, it also gives current team members an idea of the history of the program.
"It allowed our current players the opportunity to meet the players that paved the way for them and hear stories about the early days of our program," Coach Cairns said. "The alumni get to see how the program has grown and the current players get to see where it has come from."
