LOGAN, Utah - Utah State head soccer coach Heather Cairns announced Thursday that three more players have been added to the Aggies' roster for the 2013 season. They will join the eight that signed earlier this year.
Kelsey Burke, a midfielder from Foster City, Calif., comes to Utah State as a junior after spending two seasons at Foothill College in Los Altos, Calif., for head coach Owen Flannery. She helped the Owls advance to the third round of the state playoffs. Burke was the captain of the 2012 squad. As a freshman, she was second-team all-conference, while earning first-team honors as a sophomore. She was also Coast Conference Midfielder of the Year last year. She graduated from Notre Dame Belmont High School in 2010 where she was coached by both Jason Levine and Tim Nixon. In her senior season, Notre Dame Belmont advanced to the third round of the West Catholic Athletic League (WCAL) Playoffs, finishing second in the league. As a sophomore, she helped the Tigers advanced to the finals of the WCAL Playoffs, while reaching the third round of the Central Coast Section (CCS) Tournament.
Sara Cobb, a goalkeeper from Freehold, N.J., attends Freehold High School where she was coached by Elyse Ingui. Last season, she had 15 shutouts, allowing only six goals in 19 matches. As a four-year letterwinner, Cobb recorded 47 career shutouts to go along with a stellar 10-1-4 overtime record. In 2012, she was named the Asbury Park Press Player of the Year to go along with first-team all-Shore honors. She also earned first-team all-district honors from, 2009-12. The two-year captain was also first-team all-division from 2010-12. Cobb played club soccer for Freehold SL Real Shore for head coach Miki Lyons.
Kaitlyn Stratton, a goalkeeper, from Clearfield, Utah, went to Clearfield High School where she was coached by former Aggie great Lauren Hansen Clifford. As a four-year letterwinner, Stratton helped lead the Falcons to the second round of the state tournament for the first time in school history. She earned first-team all-state honors in 2012. She went on to earn all-region and all-area honors as a senior. A two-year captain, Stratton also had five shutouts and one goal as a senior.
The Aggies had already signed five players from the Beehive State, including midfielder/forward Jessica Brooksby (Smithfield, Utah/Sky View High School), defender Karlee Campbell (Hyrum, Utah), midfielders Lauren Harmon (Salt Lake City, Utah/Skyline High School), goalkeeper McKayla Johnstone (Sandy, Utah/Jordan High School) and midfielder Jayne Robison (Layton, Utah/Layton High School).
Utah State also added one player each from Oregon, California and Hawaii with the signings of Mikayla Howes (Sherwood, Ore./Sherwood High School), Ann Marie Lee (Garden Grove, Calif./Pacifica High School) and Shyani Terukina (Mililani, Hawaii/Mililani High School).
Utah State returns nine starters and 18 letterwinners from last season's squad that ended another historic season with a 13-3-6 record. The Aggies were undefeated with a 6-0-2 Western Athletic Conference record en route to their fourth WAC regular-season title in five years. Utah State also won its second-straight WAC Tournament title and advanced to its second consecutive NCAA Tournament. USU returns three all-WAC honorees in midfielder Mari Miyashiro, who earned first team honors, and forward Jennifer Flynn and defender Taryn Rose who were named to the second team.
