USU Soccer Team To Host Exhibition Game
Aug. 17, 2000
LOGAN, Utah - Utah State's women's soccer team will open the 2000 season with an exhibition game against in-state rival Utah, Saturday, Aug. 19. The game is slated to begin at 1 p.m. and will be played at Tower Field.
"We are excited to play Utah," said head coach Stacey Enos. "Utah is a very good team, and we expect this game to be a big battle. We are trying out a new system and are looking forward to seeing how it works against this caliber of team."
Utah State will call on 17 returnees, two transfers, and six freshmen to implement its new system. Leading USU on the field will be senior Jayme Gordy and sophomore Brigid Turner. Gordy returns for her senior campaign as a 1999 first-team all-Big West selection and as Utah State's career leader in goals (30), points (66), and shots (150). Turner was USU's top scorer last season, recording 12 goals and 25 points, while earning second-team all-Big West honors.
The Aggies look to improve on last season's 8-9 mark (4-5 in the Big West Conference), which was the best finish in school history and marked the fourth straight year the team increased its win total.
USU will host a second exhibition game against Dixie College, Saturday, Aug. 26. The game will begin at 1 p.m. and will be the final exhibition game before the Aggies open up the regular season at home against UNLV, Aug. 31.
