Utah State Soccer Continues Road Trip at Oregon State

Aug. 30, 2008

Logan, Utah - The Aggie soccer team continues their road trip Sunday, Aug. 31 with a match against Oregon State at 12 p.m. (MT). Utah State is looking to rebound from a tough 1-0 loss to Oregon on Friday.

The Aggie defense was strong against the Ducks, getting strong goalkeeper performances from both senior Ali Griffin and freshman Molli Merrill. The match against Oregon was the first time that Merrill had seen time this season. Offensively, the Aggies welcomed back senior striker Candice Clark who missed the first two matches with injuries.

Utah State is now 1-2 this season after the loss to the Ducks. The Beavers are now 1-1 after a 3-0 loss to No. 13 Boston College on Aug. 31 in Palo Alto, Calif. The Beavers win came earlier this season with a win against in-state rival Portland State. Sunday will be the first meeting between USU and Oregon State.

"Oregon State is a good Pac-10 team," USU head coach Heather Cairns said. "They are good tactically and are really physical. They are strong and play at a high speed."

Following the Oregon trip the Aggies return home for a pair of home matches. Utah State will face Texas State on Sept. 4 at 4 p.m. at Chuck and Gloria Bell Soccer Field before facing Northern Colorado on Sept. 6 at 1 p.m. Admission to all Utah State home soccer matches is free.
