Utah State Soccer to Take on Texas State Thursday
Sept. 3, 2008
Logan, Utah - After a tough two-match road trip where the Aggies lost both matches by one goal, Utah State soccer returns home for a match against the Bobcats of Texas State on Thursday, Sept. 4 at 4 p.m. at Chuck and Gloria Soccer Field. After hosting the Bobcats, Utah State will host Northern Colorado on Sunday, Sept. 6 at 1 p.m. This is the second-straight season that the Aggies and Bobcats have met, after USU defeated Texas State, 1-0, last year in San Marcos, Texas. Junior Andrea Seledee will see some familiar faces when the Bobcats come to town after she transferred from Texas State. In 2006, she was second on the team in assists with three. The Aggies look to rebound from a disappointing road trip to Oregon, dropping a, 1-0, decision to Oregon and a, 2-1, match to Oregon State. Utah State is 1-3 this season with all three losses coming by only one goal. Last week, the Aggies welcomed back offensive force Candice Clark who missed the first two matches with injuries. This season, the Aggies are led by sophomore forward Lauren Hansen who scored her first goal last week and junior forward Erin Salmon who scored the Aggies first goal this season. Senior Ali Griffin has started all four matches in goal. Last week, freshman Molli Merrill split time in the net with Griffin. Merrill did not allow a goal in 90 minutes of action. The Bobcats now have a 2-1 overall record with a win against Eastern Washington last week. Offensively, Texas State is led by Brittney Curry and Erica Michaud who both have two goals this season. Defensively, the Bobcats' Mandi Mawyer has started two of their three matches only allowing one goal. Texas State has allowed only one total goal.
