USU NOTABLES Freshman Claire Schend recorded her first career goal in the Aggie's game against Washington. Schend is, incidentally, a Yakima, Wash., native... Amber Tracy posted two goals in the exhibition game against SUU and followed up with a goal in the Northwestern game... Kathy Konops will travel home to Nevada when USU faces off against the Nevada Wolf Pack on Fri., Sept. 7. ... Six of the next eight Aggie games are on the road... Goalkeeper Megan Mills played for the first time in her career during the Washington game and did not allow any goals... The Aggies have not won their season opener since the 1998 campaign.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENT Nevada was shut out by its first two opponents this year, Cal State Northridge (0-2) and UC Riverside (0-3). The Wolf Pack struggled to a 4-13-0 record in the 2000 season, its first year in Division I action, and finished eighth in the Western Athletic Conference with an 0-7-0 record. UNR returns six starters and adds 10 newcomers, including three local freshmen. The Wolf Pack also returns sophomore Kaula Rowe who, as a freshman, posted a team-high 11 points. USU leads the all-time series with a 1-0 record, as it defeated Nevada 4-0 last season.

WEEKLY RECAP After blowing away Southern Utah 7-0 in an exhibition game, Utah State fell 1-2 to Northwestern on Fri., Aug. 31, in the Aggie's regular-season opener. USU played the following day, Sat., Sept. 1 against seventh-ranked Washington. The Huskies defeated the Aggies 4-1.

AGGIE HOT SHOTS Freshman Claire Schend and sophomore Amber Tracy currently hold the top spots for points earned so far this season with two. Each has posted one goal a piece, Tracy knocking in a goal against Northwestern, and Schend recording a goal in the Washington game.

UNDER NEW DIRECTION A new era in Utah State soccer begins this season as Jen Kennedy Croft takes over the reigns as USU's head soccer coach. Croft has been an assistant at Utah State for the past two seasons and has 11 years of collegiate coaching experience. Croft served as the head coach at Seattle University from 1994-96 before joining the Utah State staff in 1999. At Seattle she guided the program to a 33-19-7 record in three years while coaching her team to three NAIA Regional Tournament appearances.

USU' S TOP RETURNEES Utah State welcomes back four starters and 10 additional letterwinners from last years team. Key returnees on the frontline include junior Brigid Turner and senior Sara Cowley (Buie). Turner currently ranks second on USU's career goal list (14) and Cowley is tied as Utah State's all-time career assists leader (7). The Aggies defense returns two solid performers in junior Megan Edge and senior Brittany Baugh. Edge has started all 34 games since her arrival at USU, while Baugh has seen playing time in 45 games during her career.
