LOGAN, Utah - Utah State (3-0-1) soccer closes out the week with a border battle with Idaho State (2-2-0) on Saturday, Sept. 7 at 12 p.m. Earlier this week, the Aggies tied Nebraska, 2-2, on Monday, Sept. 2. After getting down 2-0 in the first half, Utah State fought back to tie the score in the second half, and the teams battled to a 2-2 tie.
Utah State will travel over the border to take on Idaho State on Saturday, Sept. 7 at 12 p.m. Utah State holds a slight 6-5-1 series lead over the Bengals. The last time that the two teams met was in 2011 when USU pounded ISU 6-1 in Logan. Aggie great Shantel Flanary recorded a hat trick, while USU standout Natalie Norris added two goals. Forward Jennifer Flynn added one goal to round out the Aggie scoring barrage.
The Bengals are 2-2 so far this season, winning matches against Gem State rivals Boise State (2-1 OT) and Idaho (2-0). Both of those matches were in Pocatello. Idaho State then fell to Texas Tech on the road, 3-0, and Utah Valley, 4-2, at home. The Aggies also faced Utah Valley in Logan, winning 1-0.
With three shutouts to start the season, Utah State has made history. This is the first time in program history that the Aggies have started the season with three-straight shutouts. The defense, behind the stellar play of sophomore goalkeeper Jeannie Woller, has allowed only two goals this season. So far this season, Utah State recorded shutouts against Creighton (3-0), Utah Valley (1-0) and UTEP (1-0).
In Utah State's four matches, the Aggies have been out-shot three times. The only time that USU has out-shot its opponent was against Utah Valley. Despite being out-shot, Utah State has scored seven goals, while allowing only two. In the 2-2 tie against Nebraska, the Cornhuskers had 26 shots compared to 17 by USU.
After the match against the Bengals, Utah State returns home to take Arkansas on Friday, Sept. 13 at 4 p.m. The match against the Razorback is also Utah Youth Soccer Day. Admission to all home USU soccer matches at Chuck and Gloria Bell Soccer Field is free.
