USU Soccer Concludes Brief Homestand Against Louisiana Tech on Alumni Day Sunday

LOGAN, Utah - - Utah State women's soccer concludes a short two-match homestand on Sunday, Oct. 9 at 1 p.m. against Western Athletic Conference rival Louisiana Tech at Chuck and Gloria Bell Soccer Field. With a 2-0 win against New Mexico State on Friday, the Aggies (9-4-1 overall, 1-1-0 WAC) snapped a five-match stretch without a victory. USU returned home to Logan and saw its to leading scorers take charge. Senior forward Shantel Flanary and sophomore midfielder Kendra Pemberton both scored in the win. Flanary leads the team and the WAC in points scored with 19 off of nine goals and one assist. Pemberton is second on the team in points with 10 off of two goals and a team-leading six assists. Senior goalkeeper Molli Merrill is second in league matches in goals against average with a 0.93 GAA. Merrill also has five shutouts this season which is second in the WAC. The nine wins overall matches last season's win total when USU ended the 2010 campaign 9-7-5. Utah State holds a 6-0 series advantage against the Lady Techsters. All of their meeting have taken place since the teams joined the WAC. The last three meetings have been decided by one goal. Last season, the Aggies defeated the Lady Techsters, 1-0, in Ruston behind a Heather Pond goal. Louisiana Tech (8-3-4 overall, 1-1-0 WAC) had won four-straight matches, before losing 3-2 in overtime to Nevada in Reno on Friday. The Lady Techsters have one of the most potent offenses in the league and one of the most stingy defenses. LTU has out-scored its opponents 25-8 this season. Olivia Lukasewich leads the team with six goals and one assist for 13 points. Caitlin Updyke has started 14 of Louisiana Tech's 14 matches this season, allowing only eight goals for a 0.55 goals against average. At half time, several former Aggie soccer players will be recognized on Alumni Day.
The Aggies will then hit the road for a pair of WAC matches. On Sunday Oct. 16, Utah State will face Nevada at 2 p.m. (MT) for its only match of the week.
