Utah State Soccer Travels to Boise State on Sunday
Oct. 11, 2008
LOGAN, Utah - Aggie soccer will look to win its second-straight Western Athletic Conference match when they travel to Boise to take on the Broncos on Sunday at 1 p.m. at the Boas Soccer and Tennis Complex. Utah State is 6-7-1 overall and 1-0-0 in the WAC, while Boise State is 7-4-2, 0-0-1 in conference play. Last season, the Aggies started conference play defeating Idaho in Moscow, but fell to Boise State at home. This year, USU has already defeated Idaho in Logan and look to defeat Boise State on the road. Boise State holds a 6-2 series advantage over the Aggies, including last season's 2-1 loss. Boise State tied Louisiana Tech on Friday 2-2 in a match hampered by a severe snowstorm that hit the Boise area. The match normally would have gone into overtime, but the officials ruled that it was too dangerous to continue the match and suspended it at the end of 90 minutes. Boise State took the 2-0 lead after goals by Andrea Huerta and Shannon Saxton. The Lady Techsters tied the match with two late second-half goals. The Aggies had their strongest offensive output of the season in the 4-0 win over Idaho. All four goals were scored by freshmen as Marissa Sanchez and Summer Tillotson both scored one goal and Shantel Flanary scored two for the first time in her collegiate career. Sanchez scored her first goal of the season. Flanary is now second on the team in points (nine) and is tied for first in goals (four) with sophomore Lauren Hansen. After playing Boise State, Utah State will return home for its final two home matches of the season. The Aggies will take on Nevada on Oct. 17 and close out the home schedule against Fresno State on Oct. 19.
