LOGAN, Utah - Utah State freshman midfielder Ashley Cardozo has earned all-Mountain West honors for the 2017 season. Cardozo was named to both the all-conference first team, as well as the all-newcomer team, as well as the all-newcomer team, as announced by the league Monday.

In Mountain West play this season, Cardozo scored four goals and added three assists. She played in and started all 11 matches, taking 30 shots with 22 on goal. In all, she led the team with nine goals on the year. Adding six assists, she finished the season with 24 points and is the second-highest freshman scorer in program history.

Cardozo is the only freshman on this year's all-conference first team. Additionally, she is just the second freshman in Utah State history to earn first-team all-conference honors, joining Chandra Salmon-Christensen, who earned first-team all-WAC honors in 2008.

Boise State sophomore forward Raimee Sherle was named the Mountain West Offensive Player of the Year, while San José State junior defender Darriell Franklin garnered Defensive Player of the Year accolades. The Spartans' honors continued, as sophomore forward Jamilecxth Becerra earned Newcomer of the Year honors and SJSU head coach Lauren Hanson was tabbed the Coach of the Year.

Utah State ended its season last week in a home loss to Boise State. The Aggies posted a 9-7-3 overall record, going 3-4-2 in Mountain West play to finish in eighth place in the conference standings.
