Utah State Soccer Earns NSCAA College Team Academic Award For 10th-Straight Season

LOGAN, Utah - Head coach Heather Cairns and the Utah State soccer team earned the National Soccer Coaches of America (NSCAA) Team Academic Award after posting a 3.42 grade point average. This is the 10th-straight year that USU has been honored with the NSCAA award.

The Aggies were one of eight Western Athletic Conference squads to be recognized along with Denver, Idaho, Louisiana Tech, San Jose State, Seattle, UTSA and Texas State. Only Denver (3.48), Idaho (3.45) and Louisiana Tech (3.57) had better GPAs in the conference. The Aggies were one of three teams from the Beehive state to be honored along with Dixie State and Utah. Cairns' squads have earned the NSCAA Team Award every season that she has been at the helm of the Utah State program.

A total of 726 soccer teams (222 men, 504 women) posted a team grade point average of 3.0 or higher, thereby earning the NSCAA Team Academic Award for the 2011-12 academic year. There were 152 schools that had both their men's and women's teams honored.

The Aggies advanced to the NCAA Tournament with a first round loss to BYU, 2-1, in Provo on Nov. 4. Utah State also captured its second its second-straight WAC Tournament title with a thrilling 1-0 win against Denver. The Aggies ended the season with a 13-3-6 record which is the second most wins in school history.
