LOGAN, Utah - Head coach Heather Cairns and the Utah State soccer team earned the National Soccer Coaches of America (NSCAA) Team Academic Award after posting a 3.43 grade point average. This is the ninth-straight year that USU has been honored with the NSCAA award.

The Aggies were one of six Western Athletic Conference squads to be recognized along with Fresno State, Idaho, Nevada, New Mexico State and San Jose State. USU's 3.43 GPA was second in the WAC behind Idaho's 3.46. The Aggies were one of four from the Beehive state to be honored along with Dixie State, Utah and Utah Valley. Cairns' squads have earned the NSCAA Team Award every season that she has been at the helm of the Utah State program.

A total of 789 soccer teams (218 men, 517 women) posted a team grade point average of 3.0 or higher, thereby earning the NSCAA Team Academic Award for the 2010-11 academic year. Over 100 more women's soccer teams were honored this season. There were 159 schools that had both their men's and women's teams honored which was up from 125 last season.

The Aggies also had a very successful season on the field. Utah State ended the historic 15-5-2 record, advancing to its first NCAA Tournament. The Aggies not only won their second-straight WAC regular-season championship, but also captured their first ever WAC Tournament title with a win over host Fresno State.
