Utah State wrapped up competition at the Aggie Invitational Saturday, dropping games to Northern Colorado (3-2) and UC Davis (3-1). Senior Jordyn McCracken pitched the full game against Northern Colorado, tying her season-and career-high with five strikeouts and walking two batters. Against UC Davis, sophomore Kellie White threw a complete game, striking out five batters and walking three.

With the two losses, Utah State falls to 9-11 on the season.

Northern Colorado and Utah State kept a scoreless battle until the fourth inning. Just like Friday's game, the Bears took the lead first on a two-run home run. The Aggies answered in the bottom of the inning with a single run. Senior catcher Brina Buttacavoli led off with a single through the left side, while junior designated player Bailey Lewis was hit by a pitch. Senior outfielder Jazmin Clarke then reached on a fielder's choice, with Lewis out on the play. Junior first baseman Bailee Trapp then delivered a sac fly to bring Buttacavoli home.

Northern Colorado added to its lead in the top of the seventh. After a runner reached on a Utah State error, a double brought her home. The Aggies tried to catch up in the bottom of the inning, as Trapp led off with a double. Hunter reached base on an error and brought pinch runner Mia Maher home, to pull back within a run, but the next at-bat was a ground out to end the game.

In all, the Bears tallied seven hits to Utah State's four, while each team committed one error.

Back on the field to face host UC Davis, the Aggies were retired in order for the first two innings, as the first seven batters struck out. Freshman outfielder Leah Molina had the first hit of the game, but was caught stealing. UC Davis tallied five hits through the first four innings, but the Aggie defense held off all runners.

Utah State was first to score, when freshman shortstop Joely Williamson hit a one-pitch home run to lead off the inning. Unfortunately, the next three batters struck out, ending the Aggies' turn at the plate. The home Aggies answered in the bottom of the inning, scoring all three runs. The first runner reached base on a Utah State error, followed by a single. A double down the left field line brought two runners home, while a wild pitch scored a third.

The Aggies were retired in order again in the sixth and seventh, as the UC Davis pitcher finished the game with 15 strikeouts.

UC Davis finished the game with nine hits, while the visiting Aggies had two. Utah State also had two errors in the contest. Utah State will open both the home and Mountain West portions of its season next week. The Aggies host in-state rival Weber State on Wednesday, March 14, at 3 p.m. USU will then welcome Boise State for the first conference series of the season. The Aggies and Broncos will square off on Friday, March 16 and Saturday, March 17, at 3 p.m., then close the weekend on Sunday, March 18, at noon.
