Final Stats

LOGAN, Utah - Utah State scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning while attempting a late rally, but after not reaching home plate in the previous five innings, the Aggie softball team fell to UC Santa Barbara 11-3 in six innings here Sunday afternoon.

USU fell to 10-23 overall and 2-10 in Big West play, while the Gauchos improved to 19-14 and 5-4. The teams had split a pair of games on Saturday.

USU recorded only two hits through the first five innings as UCSB's Jennifer Davis, was nearly untouchable on Sunday. Davis struck out 12 Aggie batters on the day and gave up four hits in the bottom of the sixth inning in her only badd inning.

Leading 6-0 through five innings, UCSB revved up its offense even more in the top of the sixth, scoring five runs on five hits and one Aggie error. On the day, the Gauchos rapped out 14 hits and placed runners on base in every inning after the first.

Kelly Leos recorded two of USU's six hits, while Sara Fleming, Heather Haak, Quela Leonhardt and Candace Draper each added one hit apiece.

Heather Straight took the loss for USU as she allowed six runs on six hits through three and one-third innings. Erica Hancock pitched 2.1 innings and Jessica Garnett one-third to complete the game.

The Aggies continue their busy week with a game at Utah on Wednesday and home dates with Colorado State on Thursday and UC Riverside on Saturday and Sunday.
