Utah State softball opened its final series of the season Thursday, falling to San Diego State, 2-0.

Freshman Delaney Hull pitched the complete game Thursday, striking out two batters without giving up any walks. Freshman outfielder Leah Molina had Utah State's only hit of the night, while two other batters were walked.

Utah State falls to 18-32 on the year, including a 7-15 Mountain West record. San Diego State improves to 17-32 overall and 8-14 in conference play with the win.

It was a defensive battle from the beginning, as Utah State did not get a runner on base until the top of the sixth. Between its own offense and several Utah State errors, San Diego State had multiple batters reach base in the early innings, but the Aggies held them off to leave each stranded. The Aztecs weren't able to capitalize on their hits until the bottom of the fourth, when they plated two runs off a single and an error to right field.

Pinch hitting, freshman Kennedy Hira was the first Aggie to reach base on the night, doing so on a two-out walk. San Diego State added one last single in the bottom of the sixth, but quick work by the USU defense caught the runner stealing.

Utah State broke up the Aztecs' no-hit bit in the top of the seventh. Molina lead off with a single to shortstop. Sophomore outfielder Riley Plogger then walked, but was out on a fielder's choice from senior catcher/designated player Brina Buttacavoli. Runners were left on second and third as a pair of groundouts ended the game.

San Diego State out-hit the Aggies, 8-1 on the night, while Utah State committed four errors in the game.

Utah State and San Diego State will continue the weekend on Friday, May 11, at 7 p.m. (MT). The series will then conclude on Saturday, May 12, at noon.
