LOGAN, Utah - Junior pitcher Kate Greenough (Portland, Ore.) went 1-0 in one appearance last week as Utah State went 1-2 against San Jose State on the road in Western Athletic Conference action.

Greenough pitched a complete game four-hitter in USU's 4-1 win against the Spartans as the junior transfer struck out five and walked one. With the win, the Aggies halted a 13-game Western Athletic Conference losing streak dating back to last season.

The junior is the first softball player to earn America First Credit Union Utah State Student-Athlete of the Week honors this season. Greenough improved to 4-5 with a 3.36 ERA with the victory. She is second on the team with 49 strikeouts just behind senior Lindsey Benson's 52.

The Aggies close out the month on Tuesday, March 31 against Utah Valley in Orem. Utah State will return home for a three-game series against WAC foe New Mexico State beginning with a single game on Friday, April 3 at 3 p.m.

Other USU Athlete of the Week Nominees Include:

MEN'S GOLF - Sophomore Tyson McFarland (Rexburg, Idaho) led Utah State to a seventh-place team finish at the eighth annual Cal Poly Intercollegiate last week. McFarland finished tied for 16th-overall with a seven-over 223 after carding rounds of 75, 73 and 75. It is the second time in as many tournaments that McFarland has been USU's top finisher.

MEN'S TENNIS - Sophomore Jakob Asplund (Stockholm, Sweden) was the only Aggie to win both of his singles matches last week as Utah State defeated Weber State, 4-3, and lost to Montana State, 5-2.
