LOGAN, Utah - Utah State softball opens a seven-game homestand with an all in-state doubleheader on Tuesday, April 16. USU is set to host Utah, as well as Utah Valley at LaRee and LeGrand Johnson Field. Tuesday's action against the Utes is set to get underway at 1:30 p.m., with the second game of the day against UVU is scheduled to start at 4 p.m. All times are dependent upon the weather conditions.
The Aggies were originally set to face the Utes on March 20 in Logan, but due to cold temperatures and rainfall, the games was postponed and rescheduled for this week. Likewise, the first scheduled meeting between Utah State and UVU in Orem, Utah on April 9 was postponed due to snowfall and cold temperatures.
Tuesday's doubleheader at Johnson Field marks the beginning of a long home stretch for Utah State, as it will play seven home games in eight days. It will be USU's longest homestand since 2008, when they hosted nine games as the Aggies posted a 5-4 record during that stretch.
Utah State is looking to rebound after dropping three-games to Seattle University in Western Athletic Conference action, as the Redhawks topped USU, 3-1, 2-1 and 8-0 (5) this past weekend.
Leading the way for USU will be senior infielder Christine Thomsen, who is batting .372 this season, including a homerun, seven runners batted in, five doubles and eight runs scored.
USU will continue action on Wednesday with yet another bout against an in-state school, as Southern Utah makes the journey north for the third meeting of the season with the Aggies. Wednesday's game is set to get underway at 4 p.m.
The two meetings prior to Wednesday's game in Logan came at neutral sites as both teams opened their seasons in the Red Desert Classic in St. George, Utah, and both teams made the trip to Tucson, Ariz. to participate in the Hillenbrand Invitational hosted by Arizona. Utah State will be looking for revenge, as SUU claimed both early season meeting, taking the first match up on Feb. 9, 4-1, as well as taking the second meeting on Feb. 15, 6-4.
Closing out the week for USU will be a three-game WAC home series with Louisiana Tech, which is set to begin on Friday, April 19 at 2 p.m. La. Tech enters the weekend series with a 6-6 record in WAC games after going 1-2, last weekend against San Jose State in Ruston, La., as well as a 21-19 overall record.
