Aggie Softball Resumes Mountain West Action With Three-Game Series Against San Diego State Thursday

LOGAN, Utah - Utah State softball makes the trip to the Golden State for a three-game series with second-place San Diego State in San Diego. This series begins on Thursday due to the Easter holiday. The series will begin on Thursday, April 17 at 7 p.m. (MT). The Aztecs are tied for second with San José State with matching 6-3 league records. This is the second of four Mountain West road series for the Aggies this season.

After a weekend off from Mountain West action, Utah State softball (15-21, 4-5 MW), returns to action this week with a busy five-game schedule. The Aggies began the week with a non-conference doubleheader with in-state rival Weber State on Tuesday, April 15, winning the first game, 6-2, and dropping the second 8-3.

San Diego State (29-11, 6-3 MW) are 9-3 overall against the Aggies. Last weekend, the Aztecs lost two of three against first-place Fresno State. SDSU's only other Mountain West loss came against New Mexico on March 23. Earlier this season, San Diego State defeated No. 23 California 7-3 at home.

Sydnee Cable is the Aztecs top hitter with a .381 batting average with 40 hits and 22 RBI. Patrice Jackson leads the team in home runs with 13 and has a .373 average. Danielle O'Toole is the workhorse of the San Diego State pitching staff. She is 21-5 with a stellar 1.47 ERA and 144 strikeouts, which is second behind USU's Noelle Johnson who has 167.

This season, Utah State has seen a resurgence in its power numbers. Last season, the Aggies hit only eight home runs and had eight triples. This season, USU already has 27 home runs and has hit nine triples. In 2013, junior Hailey Froton did not hit any home runs, but in 2014 she leads the team with seven home runs.

Freshman Victoria Saucedo continues to lead the team in multi-hit games with 12, including nine two-hit games and three three-hit game. Hailey Froton is the leader in multiple-RBI games with seven, while Saucedo is second with six. Froton has two two-RBI, two three-RBI games and three four-RBI games.

The series with the Aztecs continues on Saturday, April 18 at 7 p.m. (MT). The final game of the series has been changed to 12 p.m. (MT).
