Aggie Softball Concludes Season With A Three-Game Series At UNLV

LOGAN, Utah - Utah State softball (18-34, 6-15 MW) will conclude the 2014 season with five games this week. USU started the week, dropping a doubleheader to Utah in Salt Lake City (6-1, 10-7). Utah State will now make its final Mountain West road trip of the season, taking on UNLV May 8-10. The Aggies are looking to snap a seven-game losing streak on Thursday, May 8 at 7 p.m. (MT). The two teams will face-off on Friday, May 9 at 7 p.m. (MT), while concluding the season on Saturday, May 10 at 2 p.m. (MT).
In Utah State's doubleheader against Utah on May 6, junior Hailey Froton went 5-for-7 with six runs batted in. In the night cap, she tied Noelle Johnson for the most RBI this season with five, which is just shy of the school record six by Tina Ferguson in 2011.
UNLV (23-28, 12-9 MW) holds a 22-15 series lead against Utah State. The last time the two teams met was in 2011 when the Aggies stopped the Rebels 14-9 at the UNLV Louisville Slugger Desert Classic in Las Vegas. Former Aggie Tina Ferguson ended the game going 4-for-4 with a career-high six RBI. Her previous high was five RBI last season.
Sophomore pitcher Noelle Johnson has been the Aggies' leader in the circle all season. She is third in the MW in innings pitched, logging in 217.2 innings. Johnson is first in the league in strikeouts both (211) and strike outs looking (52). The 217.2 innings pitched are sixth in USU single-season charts. DeAnna Earsley holds the single-season record with 299.0 innings pitched in 1992.
The Rebels are first in the Mountain West in batting average hitting .316 as a team this season. Stefany Valentino is second in the MW with a .403 batting average. Pauline Monreal is second in the league in RBI with 58. The Rebel fire power is deep as UNLV has two players in the top 10 in the MW in home runs as Emily Haslinger is second with 14 and Monreal is third with 13. In the circle, Amanda Oliveto is fourth in the Mountain West in strikeouts with 134. She is fourth in the league in innings pitched (188.0) just behind USU's Noelle Johnson (208.2).
