LOGAN, Utah - Registration for the summer selection of Steve Johnson Elite Softball Experience camps is now open.

The Summer Skills Camp, a series of five mini-clinics, will be held on Monday, June 11, and Wednesday, June 12. Additionally, the Junior Aggie Camp will be held in two sessions on Monday, June 18.

The Summer Skills Camp is for athletes ages 10 and up, through girls entering their senior year of high school. The two days will include five different clinics that will each run for two-and-a-half hours. Each session is $55, with a $20 discount available for athletes who sign up for four or more sessions. The clinic sessions will focus on the fundamentals of the game and provide each camper with instruction and drills to improve their game. The sessions will be instructed by Utah State head coach Steve Johnson, associate head coach Windy Thees and assistant coach Nate Miller.

The first day of Summer Skills will begin at 9 a.m., on June 11, with the pitcher/catcher clinic. This clinic is limited to 25 pitchers and 15 catchers. Pitching instruction will focus on form, leg drive, mechanics of the fastball and change-up. Rise, drop, curve and screw pitches will be shown and grips for each will be taught. The last 20 minutes of camp, pitchers will throw to catchers to work on what they have learned. Catching instruction will include framing, blocking, footwork for throw downs to bases, throwing from knees, giving signals, fielding bunts, retrieving wild pitches, making tags at the plate and footwork for force plays at home. The last 20 minutes catchers will catch pitchers to work on what they have learned.

The hitting technique and drills clinic will run from 12:30-3 p.m. Open to 40 players, this clinic will instruct on the proper mechanics of hitting from stance, balance, stride, swing and follow through. In addition, participants will learn drills to use back at home to become a better hitter. Players will require a helmet and bat for this segment.

The first day of the Summer Skills Camp will conclude with the slapping/speed clinic from 4-6:30 p.m. The Slapping and Speed Clinic will work on the art of the left-handed short game. Players will be instructed on the drag bunt, soft slap and power slap. Athletes will also work on speed out of the box, as well as base running and base stealing.

Summer Skills Camps will continue on June 12, beginning with the infield/outfield clinic from 9-11:30 a.m. This clinic will focus on defensive skills, including throwing instruction, footwork and glove mechanics for each position. Defensive strategy will also be discussed and practiced.

The final session of the Summer Skills Camp will be a hitting-for-power clinic, which will run from 12:30-3 p.m. This clinic will work on mechanics and drills that will help increase power and consistency for the hitter. The clinic will focus on several drills, all to work on improving the hitter to be her best self. This camp is open to 40 participants.

Registration for each session will open 30 minutes before the start of camp. For the pitching/catching clinic, registration will take place inside the Laub Indoor Complex, located at the north end of campus. For both hitting clinics, the speed and slapping clinic and the defensive clinic, registration will take place at LaRee and LeGrand Johnson Field located on the north end of campus.

The Junior Aggie Camp will be held on Monday, June 18, with both defensive and offensive sessions. The defensive portion of the camp will run from 9-11:30 a.m., focusing on throwing instruction, fielding instruction and infield/outfield basics. The offensive clinic will run from 12:30-3 p.m., where campers will learn the basic skills of hitting, bunting and base running.
