Victoria Saucedo Earns Softball All-Region Honors
May 15, 2014
LOGAN, Utah - Utah State softball freshman third baseman Victoria Saucedo added to her awards collection, as she was named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Pacific All-Region third team on Thursday. Saucedo was named Mountain West Freshman of the Year earlier this week, as well as being a first-team honoree.
She is one of 12 Mountain West players to earn all-Pacific Region honors. Six players from the Beehive State were named to the team, including three from Utah and two from BYU.
"This is another great honor for Vic. This was a tough region, especially for third base, so this is really special, especially for a freshman," USU head coach Steve Johnson said.
The Aggie freshman is the first Utah State player to earn all-region honors since 1999 when Tiffany Pugmire was named to the all-West Region first team. Tammy Alcantar also was named all-West Region second-team honors in both 1996 and 1997.
Overall, Saucedo hit .371 with 31 RBI which is tied for 10th in the Aggies' single-season record books. Her 65 hits in 2014 were also fifth all-time and the second-most ever by a USU freshman after Alcantar's 79 in 1996.
In the Aggies' first season in the Mountain West, Saucedo hit a blistering .408 in conference games to lead the team and was fifth in the MW. She ended league games with 31 hits and 13 runs scored to lead the Aggies. She had eight multiple-hit games in Mountain West play, including a four-hit performance in a win against New Mexico on April 25.
